Oscar Ortiz

Oscar Ortiz, 78, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on February 24, 2026. Born on May 9, 1947, in Saint Charles, Illinois, Oscar was a man defined by his deep kindness, steady strength, and unwavering readiness to help anyone in need. Though he was born in the Midwest, he spent most of his life in Texas, where he built his family, his career, and a community of lifelong friends.

Oscar loved being on the water. Whether boating or skiing, that was where he felt most at peace — surrounded by waves, sunshine, and the people he loved. He also had a deep love for travel and adventure. Some of his happiest memories were made exploring new places and sharing those experiences with his family.

Through his work, Oscar touched the lives of generations of families and individuals. He carried himself with integrity and compassion, and the relationships he built over the years meant the world to him. He believed in showing up for people — not just in words, but in action.

Above all, Oscar was devoted to his children. He was a teacher at heart, always ready with advice, practical skills, encouragement, or a steady hand when it was needed most. The lessons he shared — about responsibility, resilience, and caring for others — will continue to guide them for the rest of their lives. He will be deeply missed by his children: Shawne, Shea and her husband Sean, Sarah, Frank, Wesley and her husband Stathis, and Alicia. He is survived by his grandchildren: Nora, Jordan, Diego, Cooper, Sophia, Lola, and Triss.

He is also survived by the mother of his children, Sarita; his sisters, Cristela and Olga; and a large, loving circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Francisca Ortiz, and his brother, Carlos Ortiz.

Visitation will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232, on March 15, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

A Celebration of Oscar’s Life will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home on March 15, 2026, beginning at 3:00 pm.
