With grace and peace, our beloved, Patricia Anne White Walker, was called home to be with the Lord on May 23, 2025, at the age of 97, while residing at The Forum at Lincoln Heights in San Antonio, Texas.
Born in Houston, Texas, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. White, Patricia—known affectionately as Pat—inherited both a deep sense of curiosity and a lifelong love of words from her father’s career in the newspaper industry. After graduating from Lamar High School, she attended the University of Houston before beginning her own distinguished career in journalism.
Pat’s professional journey began at The Houston Chronicle, where she penned the popular weekly column "The Talk of the Town", capturing the vibrant pulse of the city with her keen observations and wit. In 1967, she and her daughter Krisanne relocated to Kerrville, Texas, where she continued her journalism at The Kerrville Daily Times before eventually serving as manager of the Bandera Chamber of Commerce for nearly a decade. Her remarkable career reflected not only her talent for storytelling but also her devotion to the communities she served.
Beyond her career, Pat's deepest love was for animals. Some of her happiest memories were the years she spent living on a ranch in Bandera, surrounded by horses, cows, dogs, cats — all of whom she adored, often admitting she loved animals "possibly more than humans." Her natural connection to animals were among her most endearing qualities, and those who knew her will always remember her fierce devotion to all creatures great and small.
In the early 1980s, Pat married Colonel Fred Walker, and together they made their home in San Antonio, where she lived for the remainder of her life. A woman of many interests, Pat found joy in world travels, bible study, lifelong learning in all types of classes, painting, creative writing, and poetry. Her curious mind left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Walker; her parents; and her beloved daughter, Krisanne Norwood Frost. She is survived by her granddaughter Adrianne Frost of San Antonio and Adrianne’s partner, Tom Kelly; her son, Bryan Norwood, and his wife Janice of Summerville, South Carolina; and her grandsons, Chief Petty Officer Lee Norwood (Stephanie) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Lt. Col. Jay A. Norwood (Tatum) of Chapin, South Carolina. Pat also leaves behind five great-grandchildren.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of The Forum, where Pat found a warm and caring home in her final years. She was laid to rest in a private ceremony at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Porter Loring Mortuary.
In honor of her memory, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, or The Animal Defense League or Sunset Ridge Church
