The youngest of four lovely daughters, Patty was born in San Antonio, to the late Col. Earl and Mrs. Betty McSwain.
In her short life, Patty was a beautiful and loving soul laced with a whimsical spirit. Her fun-loving personality was large and magnetic. Patty’s strong and positive presence undoubtedly made her the life of the party. The ever-consummate and innovative art student, Patty enjoyed a fierce passion for media and color, particularly ceramics, and challenged herself daily. Patty lovingly shared her talents by teaching art lessons to students at St. Pius X Catholic School for many years, where her children also attended. As a successful business woman, Patty was the visionary behind the quirky and eclectic Downtown Coffee Bar located in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she combined culinary skills with a keen eye for color and display to create an inviting ambiance of comfort and relaxation.
Patty will be cherished as a bright, shining light to all that knew her — her shoe size was small, but her footprint was larger than life.
Patty Markwardt is survived by her adoring children, Brittni Colyer (Campbell), Hillari Miller (Ryan), Korbin and Mason Markwardt; the father of their four children, Gregory Markwardt; their grandchildren, Rhett and Hallie Miller; her mother, Betty McSwain; sisters, Kay Rhodes, Diane Wilke, Betty Ann (Randy) Adolph; sweet dog Lucy and cat Salem.
Patty is preceded in death by her loving father, Earl Cecil McSwain, Jr. Patty will be forever remembered and treasured by her many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
A Celebration of Patty’s life will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday February 10, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, Texas 78218, to be followed by “Patty’s Party” — a fun fiesta to commemorate her life with honor immediately following; details will be provided at the 10:00 am service.
