Patricia Safir was born January 22, 1944, the longtime San Antonio native passed away September 10, 2025. After attending Lee High School and graduating from the University of Texas, she spent years working in the education and insurance fields. However, she found her true passion in painting.
Pat won numerous awards for her beautiful watercolor paintings and earned signature memberships in the Texas Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, and Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. She was also a member of the Southwestern Watercolor Society and the San Antonio Art League. Some of her fondest memories were of the group travel painting trips she took, and she cherished the lifelong friends that she made. She enjoyed painting both landmarks and still-lifes with some of her paintings in the collections of the San Antonio Conservative Society, but she discovered late in her painting career that her most favorite subjects were portraits of pets for dog and cat lovers. She loved giving painting lessons and talked about helping her students ‘paint with their own style’. One of her greatest joys was teaching her granddaughter how to paint.
As a longtime dog and cat lover herself, Pat spent years volunteering, fostering rescues and painting for the Cocker Spaniel Rescue, even adopting several of their rescues as her own. She could also be found feeding the neighborhood cats and there was always a cat in the house.
She is survived by her brother and sister William Zimmermann and Judy Mixon; son and daughter-in law David and Melinda Safir; and two grandchildren Jackson and Joelle Safir; as well as numerous friends and family members.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:00 am at Temple Beth-El’s Cemetery on Austin Highway.
