Deepest condolences for the family

I have so many special memories with the Hemond family, and with Pat in particular. 
The Hemonds attended church with our family while I was growing up, and every Sunday, Pat would greet us with his warm smile and kind spirit. He always had little candies ready for the Primary children after church — a small gesture that meant so much to us as kids, and something I always looked forward to.

But some of my fondest memories are of our annual camping trips to Bastrop State Park with the Hemond family during Spring Break. We always stayed together in campsites 48 and 49 — our own little corner of the park. Pat never failed to bring a rope swing, carefully tossing it over the tall pine branches so all of us kids could take turns swinging under the trees.

Those trips were filled with simple joys: feeding ducks at the lake, hiking to “Bear Cave,” sliding down the pine-covered hills on pieces of cardboard, and gathering around the campfire for stories. I’ll never forget the retelling of the Henry Miller story and other scary tales. And of course, there were always the Jason mask scares waiting for us girls as we walked back from the bathrooms at night — plenty of screams and laughter that still make me smile to this day.

Pat created so many of those moments — not just with the fun things he brought, but with the kindness, joy, and generosity he showed to all of us. I’m grateful for the memories, for the laughter, and for the part he and the Hemond family played in my childhood. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

We grieve with you as you say goodbye to your loving father. What a kind soul.. always was so willing to help and filled with charity. May his legacy live through your actions … words….character. May he ever be remembered. May the peace only Christ can offer fill your soul, bring enlightenment to your heart, and fill your days with reminders of him until you can meet again…May many blessings come your way.

I am Patrick's youngest sister and sibling, Mary Beth.  I remember the day Pat left home in Vermont for Texas.  I was five and Mom and I were the only one's home to send him off.  Dad was at work and everyone else was at school.   He had his black car ready with a flat trailer carrying his motorcycle.   He remained in San Antonio, got married and raised a family of nine with his wife, Anna.

Patrick and family visited Vermont every couple of years in the same white van he somehow kept on the road for about 60 years.  He always came up with a project - trees became a large swing set, basketball hoop or an immovable mailbox post to prevent the latest teen joyride.

 Growing up in almost a different generation, with the distance and time it was really nice to get to know each other better in our older years.  

To the family and those who knew him well, I'm sorry for your loss.

My dear brother I have many memories of you growing up. We worked and played on the farm together getting the hay in weeding Dad’s strawberry garden and other chores. You never got upset always thoughtful and obedient. You helped me a lot. Nice older brother. You had a great singing voice and you were in special chorus. You taught yourself to play the harmonica. You earned money to get your first car it was a nice one. We rode to High School listening to the 50s music. 🎶 I will miss you but I have fond memories. I love you, Susan
