Pattie B McCarthy

Pattie B. McCarthy, age 83, passed away, peacefully, in San Antonio, TX, on June 17, 2011. Pattie was born Aug. 11, 1927 in Blue Hill, Nebraska, to George and Geraldine Durdin. She was raised primarily in Lincoln, NE, and moved to Los Angeles, CA as a teenager. As a result of her stepfather’s Army service, Pattie moved to, postwar, Yokohama, Japan, where she met and married the love of her life, Col. John F. McCarthy, on Aug 17, 1947. As a career Army Officer’s wife, Pattie endured the frequent absences and changes of locale with grace and humor. She made sure every house was a home for her 7 children, filled with her gentle caring and love. A gifted artist, Pattie enjoyed drawing and painting, music, dancing, and reading. In her later years she took great pride in her 7 grandchildren’s achievements and activities, and “Memaw” was greatly loved in return.

She is survived by her children, Jim McCarthy and wife, Kathleen, Tom McCarthy and wife, Pam, Katie McCarthy Kirchner, and husband Steve, Laura McCarthy Seifert, and Mike McCarthy, daughter in law, Caroline Brooks McCarthy. Grandchildren, Sean McCarthy and Erin McCarthy Burdick and husband, Matt, Nicholas Seifert, Candace and Wyatt Kirchner, Meghan and Maggie McCarthy. Sisters, Sandra Hayes and Sheila Daniels. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Col. John F. McCarthy, son John F. McCarthy III, daughter Linda McCarthy Bell, sister, Mary Lou Durdin.

The family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to the staff of Sonterra Health Center, especially, Maricela, Norma, Samantha, Maria, Valerie, and Kristen for their many kindnesses while caring for our mother.

Visitation will be 6-9:00 pm on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Sunset Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
