 I still feel as though you passing is not true and i find it hard to believe that I will be coming home and to your house without you there. It was harder than I ever could of imagined loosing you, and not being able to be there with everyone hurt me more. I know you are watching over us all now and you're hearing my prayers because you will always be there to listen or help in any way you can. You are connected to my family in so many ways its kind of wierd but it only shows that God meant for our families to grow up together and share our lives together. I will never forget all the conversations and good talks we had, and all the inspiring and motivating words you put my way. You were always someone i looked up to no matter how many times you did not let us have our way. You cared more for your children then i knew was possible and you shared nothing but love. Even in the hardest of times you found something to smile about. Know you will always be a part of our lives and will truely be missed. And i will never forget that one new years eve....man i was hurting after ur margaritas. Thank you Paul for making me part of your family and never being able to ground roxie from me because of that. You have left us with so many great memories, and lessons. Don't forget to watch over us and im sure you will let us know if we are doing something you do not approve of. You made me believe in myself because i knew you truely believed in me. Life is greater than death and love is greater than both and no one showed that better than you did. I love you paul. When I saw that Paul had passed away, I just could not believe my eyes. He and I had met several years ago when I became his life insurance agent. Paul was a man who truly cared for his family and his life stood as an example to other husbands and fathers. There just have not been words invented that explain my feelings, but I can just see Paul up in heaven. He's been fitted with his angel wings and when he looked down and saw that large crowd at his funeral, saw so many young people there, and heard those wonderful people express their feelings in eulogies, well he was just was grinning from ear to ear with that big Paul happy face. To Paul ? My Love ? 6/16/06 When I walked outside Sunday and found Paul lying on the ground, my first thought was Paul would you please stop joking around, get up and come in the house it's really hot out here. But reality slapped me in the face and my world stopped. Life without you is already so very difficult. The sorrow of this last week has been unbearable, and I pray for God's strength continually but I know you are with mama and between the two of you it's April Fools daily in heaven. Paul was brought into our lives at a time when we were faced with my mom's illness and from the very beginning he was our center strength. His laughter brought us to tears when we needed it most and his encouraging words and actions helped us all to cope. How could I have not fallen in love with this wonderful godly man. From the first day I met him I was hooked - his sense of humor, his laughter, his smile, his everything, what a man!!! When it came to Paul - nothing was impossible except when he would try and do my laundry - 
and lets just say - he only attempted that once. 
Every morning he would litterly jump out of bed and be ready to face anything 
God put in front of him - he was definitely a morning person. I can't remember how many times I said Honey it?s Saturday can you at least wait until the sun comes up before you get out of bed, and being Apostle Paul he would put the pillow over my face and simply mutter good morning beautiful and off he went bouncing away ? sort of like Tigger. Fortunately, when Paul came into my life his amazing children did as well and our blended family began, which with the number involved was a little frightening. 
But, of course with Paul nothing was impossible. So with little work and much love we developed our extraordinary family. Steven, Nick, Lance, Roxy & Kyle - what can I say - Thank You for becoming a major part of my life. 
I see a part of your dad in each and every one of you and I am so very grateful that each of you will continue to be a part of me. With open arms Paul so easily filled a role with Jordan Jake & Madison that I once worried could never be filled. From the very beginning he repeatedly reminded them that he loved them like his very own and always would - even way beyond strike three. God put Paul and I together for a reason and it's been the best two years of my life. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. If Paul were here now he would tell you to take his death as a wake up call ? 
Never put off anything for tomorrow! 
If you have not made Jesus your Savior, do so today because that is what has given me the strength and inner peace of knowing that we had both committed our life to Jesus Christ. And then it came to me today that as you look around this room and see the many people - young and old that he has touched ? that perhaps he wanted to beat us all to heaven to make sure it would be perfect for everyone of us when we get there because that is the nurturer this man was. I want to Thank you all for all the overwhelming support that the family has received. We all greatly appreciate the love, kindness and support all of you have shown.

I am sorry I was out of town and heard about pauls passing when I got home. I am terribly saddened. I met paul when David started work at Security One almost 15 years ago. He always made me laugh and I saw him many times over the years. He was a friend to all and a true gentleman. There is a brighter star above us all now.

Hey Paul, 
I am so greatful that I had the oppourtunity to know someone like you. You affected me life if ways that even I didn't know about until years later. I am so greatful that God put a man like you on this earth to affect as many lives as you did. Without you I may not have my husband. After Jason's accident nobody ever thought that he would ever be able to do the things that he can today. We credit a lot of this to you and the others that kept him alive. It meant a lot to Jason as well when you first met him and immediately remembered working on him over 10 years earlier. It meant a lot for him to know the people that he owed his life to. From the first time I met you Paul, I knew you were a genuine person. I don't think there was ever a time that you could just smile and say "HI" and keep doing what you were doing. I may not have thought so much about it then, but looking back now I don't think I have ever had anyone else ask me how I was every time they saw me and truly cared and really wanted to know. My family thanks you for more than I have words for. I just wanted you to know that we will miss you and we love you!!

We met Paul through soccer, yet he made us feel like we knew him forever.His tremendous love and guidance for others was enormously felt by all who had the pleasure to know him. He also brought so much happiness, no matter where he went. We always looked forward to seeing him at the games, he was usually the first one there, setting up the tent, getting water,oh,and of course bringing P&J sandwiches for all, there was safe and secure feeling when he was there, because he was either helping our coach, helping a parent with personal problem's,mending our children's "war wounds" as well as their ego's AND not to mention what he might say to the refs! He was so, so proud of his childrenand should be! He and Lisa did a great job raising their five children, he also raised and guided other kids better than their own parents! We got a couple of his DO'S and DONT'S, and you know, he was usually right! Then he was blessed to find happiness with Sherry and her 
children. He was a wonderful person, if we all could have had just an ounce of his "caring" we'd be rich.He was truly one of God's servants, and hopefully we've all become "Richer" from his presence on earth, I know we have! We'll alway's remember his hardy laughs, BIG bear hug's and words of wisdom. To the family, thank you for sharing him with us, and may fond memories replace your pain that endures you at this time. He will be missed dearly.

Paul was a wonderful person I am proud to have called him friend. Kids came first I like that about him. He went way beyond for me and mine more than once and I will truly miss him.

For the kids, Stephen, Nick, Lance, Kyle and Roxie I?d like to share a fond memory of when I first met your father. 
He started working with me at the same company and shortly after, I noticed he was very tight with his money. Another coworker was giving him a hard time of it because he wouldn?t go in on a football pot or something. He finally, reluctantly admitted to me that he was saving his money to buy his girlfriend a very expensive hearing aid because she was losing her hearing and couldn?t afford one herself. I was quite shocked and impressed that he was able to do that on an hourly wage of $1.60 an hour and only being about 16 years old.

I had the privilege of working with Paul for the last 3 1/2 years and from the moment I met him I felt like his friend, and had known him for years. I had some frustrating times when I first started at DCI and he always pulled me aside and talked me through it. He and I shared some tough times with each other and found we had many things in common. It was an honor to have someone like Paul to share our troubles and many laughs with and will miss him dearly. Thanks Paul and all of his family for sharing him with the rest of us. Love always, the Wickers.

I am very sorry to hear about Paul's passing. I just happened to find out today speaking with another person who knew Paul. I met Paul many years ago when he worked for Security One. I work for the State and he and I worked many projects together. He was a great person and will be missed. We met Paul on a soccer field many years back when our boys started playing on the same team. Paul was at least as energetic from the sidelines as the guys who were playing soccer on the field. He loved the game, but more importantly, he loved the players out there playing. He always took the time to ask and find out how everyone was doing--Paul genuinely cared about people of all ages, especially all of the kids! Kyle--we are with you and your family in thought and prayer for the next days, weeks, months, and years ahead as you and your family cherish fond memories of your dad--a wonderful man to so many people. We will always be here for you if you need us.

I remeber the first time I met Mr Harper, it was at Ace hardware in Bulverde where Nick and I were both working. He was bringing nick lunch or something like that. That night after we met he asked Nick if I was crazy or high, because I was so goofy. Little did he know I would end up dating his son and seeing him all the time. I love the Harper family so much that I spent most of the time Nick was away at school with them. I remeber sitting up in the stands at every soccer game Lance, Rox and Kyle played and laughing most of the time at his crazy sideline coaching. When my friend Lana joined us he thought for sure she was my supplier always a joke. We would sit back and watch him more than the game most of the time as he told all the kids on the feild not just his own things to help them out, and I remeber his pep talks he would give after the game. If you ever wanted to see the most wonderful man go from laughing to red and angry mess with one of his kids any kid in his eye site at any given time or place I am sure after reading all of the wonderful things everyone has said about him, people who didnt know his so well are wishing that they did. I know just having him in my life made me a better person. He told me one time, "Once you love a Harper you can never stop no matter how hard you try" and he sure was right. What an amazing family he has left, I would just like to thank him for allowing me to be a part of it. Rox, Nick, Lance, Kyle I love you guys and always will. kyle mom said you can have the taco ring anytimeYou are all always welcome at our house.

Although our families were not able to share lots of time together, I wanted to express my deepest sympathy. We officially met Paul our first season with the Herricanes, last year. It was then that he shared a story that I could relate to. He had ejected Bill Raynor from a soccer game about 10 years ago, and I was there to witness that. We laughed so hard. Paul seem to be a fun type of person, with a great personality, just like everyone is saying. After reading all the entries on this guestbook, I am sadden that I didn't get to know him like everyone else did. Wow, what a great person. I guess he was an angel in disguise. Again, our prayers go out to the entire family.

We met Paul while completing construction of our office complex in which he provided conultant services on our fire and security alarm system. Paul was wonderful to work with and was always cheerful and happy. We later met again while attending Smithson Valley soccer games and learned our daughter inlaw, Charlie Powell, had known Paul all her life having been friends with his children all through school.Through Charlie and her younger sister Ashley a good friend of Jordan's I learned what a devoted family man he was and always had been. His passing is not only a great loss to his family but his community as well.

As I told my sons, their father and Sam of your passing we are all in shock. You were more then a friend to all of us. You were a rock for me many times and helped me whenever I needed you. Your wonderful children are like my own and I can still hear you call me the surrogate mother. Flying Ryan in from Colorado and getting Todd back into the country from his research for this last tribute to someone as Todd said was like family for all of us is very important to me. May the family that is with us now know that we will aways cherish the larger then life Paul, who made his presents noticed wherever he was. I loved you dearly and pray now for your family. Sherry, he was a wonderful person taken from you too soon. Stephen, Nick, Lance, Roxie and Kyle may you know that I cherish you everyone forever as I do my own. I will miss you terribly my friend. As the chaplain at my father's funeral told when he died young, "God is just like us, he want to pick the best flowers first." That he did, that he did.

You had a genuine concern for the health of my daughter and that means more to me than you will ever know. I am sorry that I will not get to share the birth of my second child with you, but I know that you will always be with us. My thoughts and prayers are with the family now during this time of loss. And I personally am saddened to think I will never hear him call the office again and say "Hey P, this is P". Paul will be missed my many.

The first time I met Paul I remember thinking..."wow that is one friendly person!" Ever since then it was as if he had known me forever he would always greet me with a hug and call me Nelson. He had such a big heart and would do anything for you at the drop of a hat. Ill never forget one night I was with Jordan and some other people and we begged Paul to take us over to someone elses house where some of our other friends were. About 10 minutes after we got there we decided we didnt want to be there anymore so we called Paul to pick us up. It wasnt five minutes later we see Paul hauling but around the corner to our rescue. He always had your best interest at hand. What saddens me the worst is that I willnever hear his goofy laugh or his silly jokes again. Paul was a great person who touched the lives of so many people and will be missed greatly. I love you Paul and i know that one day we will meet again.

Just as everyone else, I was beyond shocked to receive the news of Paul's passing. I have known this man for the majority of my life, and have never stopped to think about how his absence would affect me. 
 When my family first moved to Spring Branch over a decade ago we were introduced to him and his family through my sister?s friendship with Roxie, little did I know at first sight, but Paul was soon to be a consistent part of my childhood. It started as him being the parent on the side line of every soccer game that would scream and holler words of encouragement as well as words of disgust to the refs, and with time, then progressed into becoming my best friend?s father. At the beginning of mine and Jordan?s friendship I felt blessed enough to be a face among the few that lived in her household, so when Paul and his kids joined, it was almost an honor to be able to be a part of something that held such love and joy. 
 Paul knew very intimate details about my home life, and loved me more for them. He filled the void of many heroes I needed growing up, and never failed to make me feel as if I was one of his many kids. And despite the tons and tons of ?strikes? Jordan and I received, Paul and Tynell always welcomed me back into their home with open arms. 
 I can?t help but laugh and smile when I am thinking of Paul, for he always had some comment to make when it came to me. He provided for me what you call ?tough-love,? and yet after every remark, he would remind me that he was only that way because he loved me. Some might say that he treated me as a homeless child, yet disciplined me like his own! But despite the occasion, it was always clear that he cared for me. 
 There are many, many things that Paul has done for me throughout my life, and allowing me to be a part of his has definitely been the absolute best. 
 Mourning for you is only natural; Paul, but celebrating the life of someone as honorable as you were will be a gift. I am proud to say that I will continue to be among your family, and will never forget the laughs and memories we shared. Thank you for always being there for me and my family, you truly are an amazing person.

It still seems like a dream-it is so hard to believe that you are not with us. We will never forget all the great times that we have had. You touched our lives-especially the boys-in such a special way. I will never forget how you convinced Michael that I had been chosen as one of the best teachers in SA just so he would be impressed with his "not so cool" mother. You did so many special things for our family in the short time that we had you with us.

Remembering Paul Harper: 
A Tribute to My Friend By Mike Nelson I was devastated when Paul passed away. It was too sudden and too early. He was supposed to grow old with us! But we all know that life is not static and we are not in control of the time nor place of our departure. So what do we do now? So what do I do now? I knew that at the very least I had to put my feelings and thoughts down together in writing. But I wasn?t sure where to start and what to include. I started the same way Paul would have started, I ?Googled? the question! The answer was to write a eulogy. I read that a eulogy is a great piece of writing used to entertain people about a person's life, to acknowledge people who have passed away and to remember them in a special way. I thought, ?Hey, this is good. I enjoy entertaining!? Then I read that eulogies are usually read at funerals and that?s the sad part. Wouldn?t it be great if we could hear our eulogies once a year while we are still alive?! As I grieved with Paul?s family and friends this past Sunday, it dawned on me how much I enjoyed knowing him. I did a quick personal assessment of my friends; my best friend from Permian High School now lives in Michigan and my best friend from the Navy also lives in Michigan. Who is my best friend from Canyon Lake? Holy shit, it was Paul!! He was the guy that I saw most often, the one I laughed with the most, the friend that I looked forward to talking to the most. As friends sometimes come and go I never truly realized how much he meant to me. And Paul was not there to experience that revelation! Paul, you were the one that helped me put those darn valve covers on my Corvette. I didn?t ask for help but you knew I needed it after hearing me complain for a month! I remember the time you signed ?Jack Shinn? on the silent auction papers! And you signed on several items! And then there was your voice. I?m not sure how to describe it but it was like no other. I knew it was you when you would call after only hearing your first syllable. 
And when you would call it was always, ?Mr. Nelson?. I watched you interact with your old soccer players and I could easily tell that you had a deep concern for these kids. And they really liked you. I remember when you attempted to put on the life jacket when Eric and Jacob were ticketed for under-age jet skiing. You tried and tried but the straps just wouldn?t reach! You always seemed happy. Except when you were pissed off at Jim which was almost always! The joke around my house was, ?Why can?t you be like Paul?? as you were always helping Sherry with home chores and Marion started to expect the same from ME! I remember going to the Hanging Tree after a track meet in Schertz last year for a beer. That?s what friends do. And you were going to back me up with a check ?just in case? I actually won the bid for the turkey hunt during the fund raiser auction that was going on there! Luckily I was outbid at the last second. Marion and I both heard you tell Jacob, ?I?m not your fun weekend father. I?m the father that tells you to clean your room and rides your ass to do your homework.? 
We both wanted to tell you that you were the best thing that happened to Jacob. 
But we didn?t. So we?re telling you now. Paul Harper, today is our chance to say thank you for the way you brightened our lives, even though God granted you but half a life. We will always feel cheated that you were taken from us so young and yet we must learn to be grateful that you came along at all. Only now that you are gone do we truly appreciate what we are now without and we want you to know that life without you is very, very difficult. But we will all go on just as it has to be. And just as you would want it to be. Today many people mourn Paul. His family will, of course, miss him most of all. I hope though that they will take comfort in the fact that so many others too will miss him too for many different reasons. His family knew he was well respected but it is gratifying to see how many others will genuinely miss him as well Paul my friend, this is a poem that I found today on the internet of course! that I really enjoyed and was very uplifting. Paul Harper was a great man. He always made you feel loved. Paul and I were never formally introduced, it just so happened that one day our paths crossed on a soccer field and instantly we became friends. That's that kind of guy he was. He never met a stranger. No matter where, Paul always greeted my children and I with a great big smile and a honest to goodness hug. He was genuine through and through. Indeed a very special Man. Whenever I was around him, my troubles took a back seat, even if for just a while. He was always ready lend a hand when I needed one, lend an ear if I had a trouble or if I just needed someone to listen to me gripe about something or other. Like I said he was a great man with a big heart who knew how to give unconditional love. We will miss his earthly presence, however, we will forever cherish his friendship and he will forever live on in our memories and in our hearts. Paul was a one of a kind friend. He was always there when you needed him. He would give anyone the shirt off his back. He was like a brother to Tim and I and a second dad to Drew and Steven. He will be greatly missed, but always in our hearts.

Boyd and I were greatly saddened when we heard about Paul. He was a wonderful father not only to his children but also to their friends. Our son Niles has been friends with Stephen for many years and Paul would look out for him as well. He will be greatly missed and thought of fondly by many.

Paul always showed great concern for my well being as a child, and later on into adult hood. I am so sorry to see him go.

Peggy and I were shocked and saddened to get the news Sunday afternoon. We were fortunate to have been friends with Paul and his family years ago. As stated, because of his strong beliefs, we know he is even closer to us now than the closest times we ever spent together. 
We have had the opportunity to have a short visit and some conversation with some of Paul?s children and their level of character, composure and maturity during this time directly reflects on the type of Parents they have.

Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you used to? Put no difference in your tone, wear no false air of solemnity or sorrow? Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together Let my name be ever the household name it ever was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow on it? Life means all that it ever meant? It is the same as it ever was: there is unbroken continuity? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner? ?All is well?

I don't even know where to start, I was in complete shock when Roxie first told me of your passing, and as I spoke to 3 of your boys I could hear the pain and hurt in their voices. Your children and family are going through an unbelievable hurt and yet they stay strong, for themselves and for each other. I spent a lot of time in your home and with your family and although they would fight at times with plungers and fire pokers like all siblings do you did such a wonderful job of showing them how important family is sticking up for each other everytime it was needed. It seemed like someone always had an extra friend over on top of the already full house, me being one at times, but I dont ever remember a time when you werent willing to feed the whole neighborhood, even when we came in real late. You were the kind of dad that every kid wanted to have, I remeber being jealous of your kids wishing I had a dad as involved in my life as you were in theirs even if they didnt like it all times. The world lost a wonderful man when you were taken, but heaven has gained the best in a long time. Im going to miss the drive by wave on our passing lunch breaks. POP you are going to be missed a whole bunch!

Have you been "Harpered" lately. That is a favorite saying around our house. We met Paul when he was our son's first baseball coach Jay is now 29. Larry would help with the players and I would watch Paul's boys during practice. He always had at least one of them with him. At that time Paul was just a big kid himself always pulling pranks on Larry or me. He always called me Mom and I called him kiddo. Our family is deeply saddened by Paul's passing, but our lives were so enriched because we knew him. Though we had not seen him or the family in a while, we still Harper each other as often as we can. Love and prayers go to Paul's family, he was proud of all of you. Paul Harper,what can we say? You were a mighty fine man,baseball ump.coach,fireman,E.M.T.,Bulverde Bakery regular and best of all a FRIEND! 
When anything went wrong,it was..."CALL PAUL" and you came to the rescue!Seems like you have been around forever,but,not long enough! We thank you for the help when our house was on fire and for picking up dad when he would fall,then for being a shoulder to cry on when he passed away.To Steven,Lance,Nick,Roxie and Kyle,please know your dad is in a GREAT PLACE,he touched so many people in his short time on this earth,take comfort in knowing he is "LOVED". We know it is not easy but Paul is just a thought away. We are so happy we knew him. Lisa and Paul did a great job of raising you kids,be proud. Bulverde will never be the same. Our prayers are with all of Paul's family and friends. Gone too soon, much left to do. Please try to take comfort that one day you will all be reunited. Paul lives on in all of you, remember his laughter, say his name everyday, keep him close to you. In those quite times allow yourself to cry. Talk about Paul, it will only help you in the long run. Don't keep it all inside. This process is a long one that never goes away. In your own ways and time you will learn to live again. 
I hope that my words can be of some help to all of you. I have been dealing with the sudden death of my sister for 6 years now. People mean well, sometimes their words will hurt.

Dear Harper Family: I was so sadden to hear of the passing of this most special young man. Paul spent many hours at my house when he was in high school, getting his hair cut because the football coach would not let the boys play if their hair was too long. Even now I can see him pulling in our driveway in his "multi-colored" pickup with that most wonderful smile on his face. This world has lost a most wonderful young man.

To someone who was like a brother to me and even though we went our separate ways. You were always in my heart. The times we had togeather will always be remembered. I am shocked and sadden to learn of Paul's passing. He was a good man. Paul will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Our family was deeply saddened and shocked at the untimely death of Paul Harper. 
 We first had the pleasure of knowing Paul through our daughters' Kaci and Roxie, meeting and becoming friends in high school. 
 We hadn't lived in San Antonio very long and only knew a few people , so when Kaci's dad had to be out of town the week of a father/daughter dance at school, Paul immediately obliged himself to be her "stand-in" dad, even to the extent of having to attend several practice sessions after school. How many people would do that?? 
 Yet, another time when Kaci became very ill and was hospitalized for several days, Paul checked in on her every day on his lunch hour and even brought sandwiches for us as we did not want to leave Kaci's bedside. How many people would do that?? 
 Those unselfish acts of kindness will forever be in our hearts and our minds. 
 Paul Harper was an angel on earth even before he was called "home." God must have a greater plan in store for him now, and we are sure in some way his spirit will continue to be among us all. 
 Our one personal regret, however, is the last time we talked we said, "lets get together for coffee." We 
 never did. 
 Paul Harper was not a friend to take for granted, he was a great inspiration to us all and will be dearly missed. 
 Paul, all our love and thanks, it was a pleasure knowing you!!
