Paul N. Jett, Jr. passed away on October 26, 2014 at the age of 83. Paul was an auto racing legend on the short tracks around south Texas. His racing career began on a motorcycle at the age of 15 and ended at the age of 74 when he was racing lawn mowers. During those many years, Paul participated in I.M.C.A, SCCA pro formula series, sprint cars, NASCAR Winston Cup Series, Texas International Driver's Association, National Drag Racing Lawn Mower Association, and on the local shorts tracks in the San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi areas. Over the years, Paul was described by journalist as a race car driver with colorful resume, the man who ran up front at old Pan American Speedway, and a little guy in stature but a giant in Texas racing circles. He was a long time employee of Handy Andy and eventually opened his own automotive shop called Autocraft.
Paul is survived by his wife of 58 years, Caroline Jett of Bulverde, daughter Diane Valderama of San Antonio, daughter Linda Hamilton and husband Mike of San Antonio, daughter Carol Marlow and husband Kevin of Hurst, grandchildren David Evetts and wife Jennifer, Jessica Evetts, Sarah White and husband Chase, Matthew Hamilton, Zachary Hamilton, Haley Marlow, Austin Marlow and Grace Valderama, and great granddaughter Blaine Evetts, as well as cherished extended family members and friends.
The family invites friends to join them anytime between 1:00-4:00pm on Sunday, November 2, at Porter Loring Mortuary North located at 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, for a celebration of Paul's life. The family and friends will gather together between 1:30-2:30pm for a service and to share memories.
Paul had a soft heart towards animals and "critters". Therefore the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the San Antonio Animal Defense League, Bulverde Area Humane Society, American Cancer Society or to a charity close to your heart.
