It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Peterson, a man whose spirit was as vast and vibrant as the great outdoors he loved so dearly. He passed away peacefully on October 23, 2023, surrounded by the warmth of his loving family.
Born on October 17, 1943, Paul's zest for life became evident from a young age. His childhood tales were often filled with adventures, chasing the great outdoors. Those tales evolved as he grew, painting a life passionately dedicated to hunting and fishing across the rich landscapes of Texas, Colorado, and Nebraska. His friends and family often joked that he could communicate better with animals and fish than people, such was his natural connection to the wilderness.
Yet Paul's adventurous spirit wasn’t just limited to the outdoors. He served our nation with honor and dedication in the Navy. And after his service, he embarked on a rewarding career with IBM. There, Paul showcased the same patience and precision he employed in his outdoor pursuits, serving in customer service and repairs for many years. His colleagues fondly remember him as a reliable team member who tackled challenges with grace and determination.
Away from work, Paul's heart swayed to the tunes of country music. Those who had the privilege of joining him on a drive would remember the radio always being tuned to country hits. He often said country music narrated his life, echoing tales of love, loss, and the beauty of everyday moments.
However, for all of Paul’s passions, nothing surpassed his love for the Dallas Cowboys. Win or lose, Paul was a dedicated fan, celebrating the highs and sticking through the lows, his loyalty unwavering.
Most importantly, Paul was a cornerstone for his family, embodying what it means to be family-oriented. His loved ones remember countless stories around campfires, shared meals on Sundays, and the steadfast support he provided. His wisdom, laughter, and love were a constant source of strength and joy for his family.
Paul leaves behind a legacy of passion, dedication, and love. To his family, he was a pillar of strength; to his friends, an adventurous companion; and to the world, a reminder of the simple joys of life.
As we bid farewell, we celebrate Paul's life not in mourning, but by embracing the values he held dear: adventure, loyalty, and most of all, family. The lakes and forests he frequented might feel a tad quieter now, but his spirit will forever echo in the rustling leaves, the flowing rivers, and the hearts of all who knew him.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and David Peterson; son, Darin Peterson; and brother, Jimmy Peterson. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy Peterson; son, Kevin B. Peterson; daughter, Renee Myrick and husband Jeff; siblings, David and Roger Peterson and Mary Ann Rocha; as well as numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, November 6, 2023 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
