He was a proud member of the "Greatest Generation" that sacrificed so much for us, their children, through the Great Depression and World War II.
Paul proudly served as a Chief Radioman aboard the destroyer escort USS Price. He received a fleet commendation for his actions on April 11, 1944, where he was responsible for alerting his battle group to an imminent attack from the West by Luftwaffe torpedo planes by intuitively maintaining open frequencies with the Gibraltar communications station long after the other ships of the convoy switched to monitor the Algiers station; thus saving the lives of thousands of fellow sailors.
After the war Paul earned his degree at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. It was in Philadelphia that Paul met and married his loving wife Blanche Cohen and settled down to raise two bright, sensitive, and caring daughters.
After the death of his wife in 1994, Paul moved to San Antonio to be with family. During these few years Paul had the opportunity to grow close to his children and granddaughters, and served as an inspiration and example of strength and perseverance to those who knew him.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife Blanche, mother Fay Weinstein Ginzburg Saunders, father Mayer Ginzburg, step-father Joseph Saunders, brother William and twin brothers Leslie and Milton, all of blessed memory.
Paul is survived by his sister Sylvia Vilensky, daughter Dr. Michele J. Saunders and son-in-law Mark Hyman, daughter Flora Shebest, granddaughters Sofia Saunders Willingham and Amalya J. Hyman, grandson Aaron Shebest great-granddaughter Sierra Shebest great-grandson Shane Shebest and sister-in-law Pidge Saunders.
