Penny is survived by sons Gregory Scott Smith and Parker Dean Smith, Daughters-In-Law Thao Nguyen Smith and Denise Lynne Baptiste and Granddaughter Penny Laine Smith.
Penny grew up in Leoti, Kansas before moving to Monument, Colorado and then finally settled in San Antonio, Texas. In high school she represented her school as a cheerleader and was elected Homecoming Queen, even managing to ride on a parade float with then-Senator Bob Dole.
She had a long and successful career in the hotel industry, working for national chains such as Holiday Inn and Hilton as a Sales and Marketing Executive. Her most important career was raising her two boys, which she did with love and understanding.
She will be laid to rest with her husband Greg Dean Smith at Ft. Sam Houston. She was dearly loved and will be dearly missed."
A Graveside Service will take place on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio, Texas 78209.
