Perry Bynum McElroy, Jr., Lt. Col., USAF was born on December 11, 1918 in Brownwood, Texas - the son of Perry Bynum McElroy, Sr. and Nona Victoria Snipes. He graduated from High School in Brownwood, Texas and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard Payne University. In 1942, Col. McElroy enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served 28 years in the U. S. Air Force, completing his last tour of duty before retiring in June of 1969. He was married to Virginia Helena Brinkman until her death. He married Frances Walker in November of 1979 and in addition to her husband, he became a first time father and grandfather at age 60 to her 3 children and eventually 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. They have resided at Air Force Village in San Antonio for the past 13 years. He was a golfer, an accomplished musician and a tenor with the Village Voices. and a man who loved to travel with his wife of nearly 25 years. He will be missed by friends and family in Waxahachie, Floresville and San Antonio in addition to Air Force friends all over the world. Col. McElroy is survived by his wife, Frances McElroy, his sister, Willie Faye Derryberry, children and grandchildren by marriage and nieces and nephews.
