Our sincerest condolences to the Ortega family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.  May God's love and peace surround you and offer comfort  as you grieve.  We have great memories of Pete at the BBQ get togethers either at their house or the Charleville's over the years, full of fun and laughter.  Good times and treasured memories  for sure! When I joined S.E.R.T in 1999 you were my S.E.R.T Instructor. Before training me, you had worked alongside my brothers who were also S.E.R.T.  You were a Hardcore S.E.R.T Officer and Marine and because of that;  we had a bond. You treated me as S.E.R.T and not as a female and because of that You were my "go to" person when it came to S.E.R.T. You will be truly missed. "Super S.E.R.T man". Praying over your family during this tremendous loss.

My condolences to Mrs. Ortega and family.  Pete was a very dear friend and hell of a Deputy Sheriff. He took pride in everything that he did. A SERT Team Leader and was one of my SERT Academy Instructors. He was a great friend, fellow Marine, a family and a loving Husband to Roberta. May you rest in Peace my Brother Marine and I will see you later. Hurrah!

My favorite memory is when we went to Port A for several days. We spent all day at the beach making sand castles and then stayed up all night fishing on the pier until the sun started to rise over the water. That trip was so much fun. I’ll hold onto that memory forever. I’m grateful for the time we shared.

To Pete's family, I wish to express my condolences. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I owned property adjacent to Pete and Roberta some years ago, and finer neighbors are not to be found! Always friendly, we helped each other with the tasks that go along with having fences, gates,  escaping cows and bulls, and our biggest challenge: getting hooked up with the local water supply. That was a financial struggle for all of us, and I was proud to be able to help. I was moved when we finally got it secured, seeing Pete become emotional at the prospect of "no more hauling water every weekend." I knew then I had a neighbor who cared for others, and especially Roberta, who was trying to run a home without easy access to water. I salute her. I will never forget their efforts in that endeavor. It benefitted all of us.
I shall pray for support to Pete's entire family, and a time to heal, and be able to remember him with a smile and funny story instead of tears.

I remember joining the SERT team at the jail, many years ago, & admiring your training & leadership of our team. It was because of you that everyone felt safe & we accomplished many things that no one thought possible. You, my friend, were the epitome of SERT. I will never forget you.
