Dr. Peter Marcus Ravdin, MD, PhD, born on June 3, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly at his home on February 7, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 75. He was the beloved son of Robert and Phyllis Ravdin, both of whom preceded him in death.
Dr. Ravdin took pride in improving the lives of his patients, both by providing personalized medical care and in furthering research in the field of Oncology. He directed major clinical trials, including one leading to the FDA approval of the widely used breast cancer drug Taxotere. His unique insight into medical research and its interface with technology led him to develop “Adjuvant!,” a widely used computer tool that estimates benefits and risks of chemotherapy after breast cancer surgery. In 2010, he was awarded the American Society of Breast Diseases “Pathfinder” award that celebrates innovators who have combined biological intuition, clinical and translational research, and clinical practice with an interdisciplinary understanding to advance the fight against breast disease and breast cancer.
Peter lived a life marked by curiosity, creativity, great storytelling and a deep passion for learning. Throughout his life, he was constantly exploring new ideas, crafting beautiful stained glass works and experimenting in the kitchen. His love for science and innovation was evident in everything he did—whether he was tinkering with a new project or sharing his knowledge with others, he was always engaged in the act of discovery.
A devoted husband, father, and brother, Peter leaves behind his wife, Anne-Marie Langevin; daughter, Elizabeth Ravdin; sisters, Vivien Ravdin and Charlotte Ravdin-Buxton; and cousins, George Bergus, MD, Annie Ravdin-Taylor, and Susan Ravdin. He will be remembered not only for his boundless creativity and intellect but also for his gentle spirit and love for those he held dear.
Peter's legacy will live on in the many projects he started, the knowledge he passed down, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a science education charity of choice.
