

She was born Phyllis Evelyn Hopkins on January 22, 1932 to John and Ruby Hopkins. She was raised in San Antonio and for a short period lived in Ft. Pierce, Florida before returning to San Antonio.
After graduating from high school and college, she met and married Irv Weinman. Phyllis began volunteering at Methodist Hospital in 1963. In 1966, she began a long career at the Methodist Hospital that spanned 38 years and many positions. She retired in 2004 as the Director of Volunteer Services.
As the 2nd Director of the Blue Bird Auxiliary, a position she held for 24 years, Phyllis worked with thousands of Blue Bird Volunteers and was affectionately known as "Mama Bird." She helped initiate the Blue Bird Auxiliary Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance for Junior Volunteers who pursue medical careers.
Phyllis had a deep love for animals especially her dog, Iolaus. She was an avid Spurs fan and enjoyed listening to classic rock music.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Phillip Phil Weinman and wife, Terri of Arlington, TX, Russell Rusty Weinman, Raymond Ray Weinman and wife, Vicki all of San Antonio, Bruce Weinman and wife, June of Fort Worth, TX, and James Weinman and wife, Jami of Allen, TX; and her grandchildren, Vivian Weinman, Mitch Perry, Kristy King and husband, Allan, Jody Weinman and wife Jenna, James Roy Weinman, Katelyn Weinman, Keri Weinman, Chris Weinman, Marianne Weinman, Janelle Weinman, Joseph Chadwick and wife, Jenny, Jessica Layton, Jordan Layton, Colton Weinman and Cody Weinman; great grandchildren, Haylie King, Aleksander King, Isaiah Warren, Beth Chadwick and Garrett Chadwick; her brother, Phil Hopkins and wife, Emily and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family is grateful to Juanita Salazar and Minerva Ortega and staff and would like to thank them for their special care and comfort given to her. They are also appreciative for the care offered by the Vitas Hospice Doctors and staff. Her family is also grateful to Elder Ambrose Robinson and Minister Freda Robinson for their spiritual guidance and friendship.
Visitation will be on Thursday, February 11, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
