Polly passed from the tender arms of her children to meet her Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, there to reunite with her husband of forty-eight years, Tom J. Sheridan, who preceded her in death.
She will always be remembered for her strong faith, deep love of family, upbeat and vivacious spirit, and unconditional generosity. Polly, a native San Antonian, was born on May 27, 1931, to Pauline Magott Grona and Edgar Pius Grona.
She was a 1948 graduate of Incarnate Word High School. After attending Incarnate Word College, she married the love of her life Tom and was blessed with six children and eighteen grandchildren. Polly was a charter member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and active parishioner for fifty-two years.
She was involved in the Blessed Sacrament Altar Society, the ACTS Community and the VSP. In 1991 she introduced the Christmas Giving Tree, the Magi Tree, to her parish, chaired this ministry for many years, and continued to serve as a mentor. She was a member of the St. Peter-St. Joseph Children's Home Auxiliary, serving as past President and former member of the Board of Governors.
She was also a member and past Vice-President of St. Monica's Guild. She belonged to the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, Oblate Associates, and Sultanas de Bejar. An active member and officer of the San Antonio Genealogical Society and long standing member of the Polish Genealogical Society of Texas, Polly was proud of her heritage and was a published genealogist. She enjoyed her role as historian for St. Joseph's Society Cemetery. She was a former member of the University of Incarnate Word Development Board and Incarnate Word Associates and a recipient of the 2006 Shamrock Legend Award honoring alumni and their charitable works.
Polly was a past officer and faithful member of the Empress Candle Garden Club. She took great delight in tending to her green house and gardens and eagerly shared her gardening expertise with all. She was an inspiration to her family and a marvelous role model. Polly put her heart into everything she did, whether it was planning and baking for a family get-together, nurturing her precious grandchildren, continuing family traditions or supporting loved ones. Polly had a lasting impact on everyone she met, and those who were fortunate enough to share in her warmth and love will never forget it.
Polly is survived by her daughters, son, and their spouses, Colleen and Les Tschoepe, Jr., Cynthia and Tom Joyce, Anne and Ken Frazer, Janet and John Hancock, Lara and Tom M. Sheridan, and Patricia and Craig Hardy. Polly was so proud of her grandchildren, Andrew, Brian, and Sarah Tschoepe; Erika, Rachel and Regina Joyce; Katherine and Diego Frazer; Jennifer and Matthew Hancock; Annika and Margot Sheridan; Brittany, Kendall, Thomas, Sheridan, Gracilyn and Jack Hardy.
