

He was born in Greeley, Kansas on December 31, 1910.
He is a graduate of the University of Kansas and flight training class of October 1935 at Randolph Field and a veteran of 35 years of service in the US Air Force.
During World War II, he served in the European Theater of Operations as a pilot completing 25 combat missions with 160 combat hours from June 1942 to October 1943. He was a Command Pilot with 6600 hours flying time in 50 different US aircraft as well as time flying several British aircraft.
Colonel Macklin received many awards and decorations during his years of Air Force service including the Legion of Merit and the French Legion of Honor. He spent the last 44 years in Ft. Worth and San Antonio, Texas.
He was married for 65 years to the late Muriel Searcy Macklin; they had a blessed life traveling the world with their four children.
Their many stations of duty included Paris, France; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Washington, DC; Rapid City, South Dakota; Ft. Worth, Texas; San Antonio, Texas.
An avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs, he also spent many hours doting on his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Boerne, Texas.
He was preceded in death by 4 sisters; a brother; and a son, Mark Macklin, Springfield, Missouri.
Colonel Macklin is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Prater, Boerne, Texas; sons, Col Raleigh Macklin, Jr, USAF Ret., Warrenton, Virginia and Mr. Brian Macklin, Ft. Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild are all on the way.
