Raymond R. Olivarez was called by his heavenly father on the morning of May 30, 2017 from the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He found eternal peace at the age of 91 after living a rich life full of discipline and devotion to God and his family.
Raymond was born to the late Eusavio and Ramona Olivarez in Beeville, TX on August 30, 1925. From humble beginnings Raymond would develop a strong work ethic which would lay the foundation for future generations to prosper. It was also at a tender age, by his father’s side, that he would discover one of his greatest passions, golf, a sport that would give him true joy and many beautiful memories. At the age of 18 Raymond was called to serve his country. He served proudly at sea as a Pharmacy Technician in the US Navy, an accomplishment which he held in high regard as Raymond was at his very core a true patriot.
Raymond was blessed through the grace of God with a large and loving family. He married his best friend, Pilar H. Olivarez on July 28, 1959. A diligent worker herself, the happy couple would both retire from careers in civil service at Kelly AFB after each serving more than 30 years. Never one to waste precious time, Raymond would also retire from University Hospital after 13 years. First and foremost, however, he was a devoted father to his children as well as an avid competitive golfer, unique cook, and Elvis fan.
Raymond is preceded in death by his beloved wife Pilar H. Olivarez; brothers, Raynaldo Olivarez and Bennie Olivarez; sisters, Maria Isabel Garza, Petra Brown and Delores Villarreal and son-in-laws, Roderick Carr and Raymond P. Quesada. He is survived by his sister, Severa Eckols; his children, sons, Raymond (Doris) Olivarez, Michael (Adelina) Olivarez and daughters Diane Carr, Elena Quesada, and Anna Marie (Rudy) Vasquez. He was also blessed with 14 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren and one on the way.
