Rene Gerardo Cantu passed away on September 23, 2021 at the age of 43, in Orlando, Florida. His battle with complications from COVID-19 was a courageous one, having spent more than six weeks in the hospital fighting to return home to his family in San Antonio, Texas.
After taking his first breath in Allende, Coahuila – Mexico on April 16, 1978, Rene and his family moved to Floresville, Texas with his beloved mother, Cruz.
He leaves behind two sisters: Marissa and Vanessa, and two brothers: Daniel and Eddie, along with numerous nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. Rene met the love of his life, Kimberley, while attending middle school in Floresville. It was love at first sight, and they supported each other through thick and thin for thirty years, creating a sacred bond that was obvious to anyone who they befriended. Together, they had three children: Jordan, Joseph, and Jaiden.
Rene was a provider. He spent most of his career as an established journeyman electrician. When he was not working hard to provide, he was spending his time with his loved ones. Family meant everything to Rene. He loved spending time with his wife, doing whatever it was Kim wanted to do because we all knew he loved making her happy. He enjoyed spending time outside, attending his children's sporting events and cheer competitions, and working on special projects at home. Rene was quite the handyman.
He was also proud to be a Papa, survived by his two grandbabies, Elliette and Jax. His unique humor, infectious laugh and smile, and warm personality are what made Rene the amazing man that we will all miss and remember forever.
A Funeral Service is scheduled for 11:00 am on October 2, 2021 at Porter Loring Mortuary West, 1710 West Loop 1604 North, San Antonio, TX 78251, followed by a reception.
