Rene spent most of her life in San Antonio, Texas, a place that shaped her quiet strength and deep sense of compassion. In her later years, she found peace in Manistee, Michigan, where she was happiest near the water—a reflection of the calm, steady presence she brought to the lives of others.
A lifelong educator with North East Independent School District (NEISD), Rene devoted her life to helping others grow. She earned her master’s degree from Trinity University and a Doctorate in Education from Columbia University, achievements that spoke to her dedication—but never defined her. She was far more interested in lifting others up than in celebrating herself.
Rene was, above all else, selfless. She never sought attention or recognition, preferring instead to stand quietly in the background as a source of encouragement and peace. She had a rare gift for making others feel supported and capable, and she found genuine joy in seeing people succeed—whether or not she was ever acknowledged for her role in it. She lived her life trying not to be a burden, always putting others’ happiness ahead of her own, and offering kindness without expectation.
To those who knew her best, her love was constant and unwavering. As a mother, she was a steady source of support, pride, and reassurance. She is survived by her son, David Bohls Jr., and her granddaughter, Evelyn Bohls. Rene often referred to her son as “my David,” a simple phrase that carried a lifetime of love and pride. She believed in him fully, even in moments when he may not have believed in himself—and that belief never wavered.
She will be remembered not for seeking recognition, but for the quiet, lasting impact she had on so many lives. Rene’s legacy is one of kindness, humility, and unconditional love—a life lived not for herself, but for others.
She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
