Ricardo, or "Rick" to family and friends, was born on August 18, 1943 in El Paso as the youngest of six siblings to parents Dionicia and Francis Gonzalez. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1961 as Salutatorian and Battalion Commander of JROTC Corpse of Cadets. He went on to graduate from UTEP with a degree in Electrical Engineering before answering the call of service in the Army. During his service, Ricardo fought in Vietnam as a Company Commander in the 23rd Americal Division receiving a Bronze Star cluster, obtained an Associates of Science in nuclear engineering, and reached the rank of Captain.
After the leaving the military, Rick received his degree in Industrial Engineering from UTEP in 1978 after which he began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone, now AT&T, until he retired in 2002 with the title of professional engineer. While at Southwestern Bell, Rick earned his Masters in Industrial Engineering from SMU School of Engineering in 1988.
On January 4, 1981, he married Martha Celia Herrera in San Antonio. Ricardo was a loving husband and devout family man. In keeping with his engineering sensibilities, there was no conflict that he could not resolve or problem that he could not fix. Rick was a true handy-man both at home and in the real world.
Ricardo is survived by his wife, Martha Celia; sons, Ricardo Gonzalez with wife Erica and Roman Gonzalez; daughter, Raquel Gonzalez with fiance Matthew Campos; brother, Saturnino Gonzalez; sisters, Rosa wife to husband Ramon Regalado, Catalina wife to husband Lionel Rincon; and his granddaughter, Delia Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his parents Dionicia and Francis Gonzalez and bothers Profirio Gonzalez and Roberto Gonzalez.
