Richard Larry Burns, Sr., 75, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in Sierra Vista, AZ. The son of Hilton D. Burns Sr. and Katie Mae Brocksch. Richard was born September 1, 1934 in San Antonio, TX. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Air Force, and served in the Korean Conflict. After his military service, Richard studied engineering at the University of Texas. He continued his career with the U. S. Government as an Engineering Communications Security Specialist until his retirement. Richard was an active member of numerous civic organizations, to include, the Elks Club and Eagles Club. A veteran himself, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign War were closest to Richard’s heart; he dedicated innumerable hours to helping and fellowship with veterans. Mr. Burns is survived by his children, Richard L. Burns, Jr, Terry M. Burns and Becky R. Hultenius; grandsons, Daryl Burns, David Parker, and Benjamin Parker; and great-granddaughter, Gianna Parker. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2011 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
