

Richard Joseph Corbett, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle passed away quietly at home October 15, 2020. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 12, 1929, to Arthur Sr. and Theresa Corbett.
Richard played the trumpet in New York and won an amateur hour award. He loved racquetball, painting and reading. He liked to read every night before he went to bed, and he also loved doing computer photo work for his own pleasure and made custom made cards for family member and friends during the years. He was an ardent student of the Civil War and the History of Art.
Richard entered the US Marines, on January 1, 1951, and served on Korea front lines 1952 and 1953 with the 7th Regiment of the 1st Marine Division as a 50 Caliber machine gunner. He was wounded in action on January 26, 1953; and discharged on January 2, 1954.
He later entered the US Air Force on April 15, 1955 and was discharged on May 15, 1974. He worked in Air route traffic control center, England, Base Operations, Andrews AFB, MD; Air operations and plans, England; Flight scheduling, Randolph AFB, TX; NCOIC Flight operations, Randolph AFB, TX; Air Defense Command, Steward AFB, NY. Served in Viet Nam War March 1968 to March 1969 as Air operations supervisor, 7th AF, Udorn, Thailand, PACAF.
Richard received, Purple Heart Medal; Navy Occupation Medial (Asia); National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Korean Presidential Unit Citation; AF Good Conduct Medal; VSM w/1 BSS; RVCM; AF Commendation Medal.
After retiring from the military with 24 years of service Richard attended Saint Philip’s College and studied Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. He worked in various places and at Fort Sam Houston until 1989 when he was forced to retire on disability. He then spent the next several years as a volunteer in the Catholic Ministry of the Bexar County Jail counseling inmates. He was diagnosed with a physical condition that is a deterioration of muscles and nerves and eventually became wheelchair bound.
Richard will lovingly will be remembered by his wife of forty years, Pocahontas Corbett; children, Steven, Corrinna, Danny and wife Lala; two devoted step-sons, Dannie and wife Yolanda, Benjamin Luckey; daughters-in-law, Veronica Luckey and Tara Crawford; sisters-in-law, Margaret Pearson and husband Henry, Josephine Crespo and husband Pete; brother-in-law, Wyniaco and wife Maria; grandchildren, Pocahontas, Jazmine, Dannie, Lorena, Benjamin, Korie, Samantha, and Joseph; nieces, Margaret Pearson, Nichele Mateo, Delores Montgomery; nephew, Tony Wilson; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
