

Dick was born in New York City (Staten Island) NY to George and Mildred Decker on September 17th, 1931.
Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife and soul mate, Margaret (Maggie), his parents, George and Mildred Decker, and his brothers Charles (Bub), and George (Ike).
Dick spent a long and happy life in service to others. First, with the Merchant Marines and the US Navy serving on the USS Mindoro and the Battleship Wisconsin; then, as a Police Officer in New York City with the NYPD and as a New York City Firefighter with the FDNY. After retiring from the FDNY, he moved to the Texas Hill Country where he purchased land on a hill and built a house. He was a caring neighbor to those he met and shared time.
His sense of duty and service came with him to Texas, where he became an active member of the Harper Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife were also very active with several other charities including at the Texas coast helping save baby turtles, and supporting numerous non-profits related to pets and animal rescue.
Dick was a lifelong Philatelist (stamp collector) and naturist. His ideal Sunday was sitting at his desk with a magnifying lens examining stamps for his collection. Dick also enjoyed a good card game. He traveled extensively in his quest to obtain a poker chip from as many casinos as he could.
He was also a lifelong and active motorcyclist. When he wasn’t riding his 1953 Indian Chief, he was on his R90S BMW. He enjoyed attending motorcycle flat track races and rallies.
Dick (Sheik)and Maggie (Maggie Who) were members of the Gypsy International Motorcycle Club, Alamo City Chapter. Sheiks’ dedication to motorcycling and the club resulted in his becoming an international officer (Red Rocker) and was the Area C Vice-President for many years. He was also one of “Papa Jack’s Warriors and was inducted into the Gypsy Hall of Fame.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Park 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218. Burial services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Seaside Memorial & Funeral Home at 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas.
