Dick was born to Louis and Bessie Galland on February 16, 1937 in Sioux City, Iowa. He met his best friend & partner in life in High School in Sioux Falls, S. Dakota. They were lovingly married 58 years from February 23, 1958 in Sioux Falls through the births of their four children, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (and one more on the way) through many homes, travels around the world and most joyful in their home throwing parties and watching the beautiful sunset view from their deck in Helotes for the last 46 years.
Dick had a lifelong career in the insurance business. From Great Southern to being the President of UniLife for over 10 years to establishing his own company and great achievement as Chairman of LifeRe Insurance Company in 1984 and selling it in 2007 to live on under Ameritas Insurance Corp. Dick enjoyed many things that included travel, golf outings/trips, singing in the choir and most of all spending quality time with family and lifelong friends far and near.
If you were with him, you were sure to laugh with one of his quick witted teasings or jokes, while always remaining a classy gentleman and forever someone you could count on in life.
He will be missed and always loved by many but especially by his loving wife, Barbara Galland; his daughter, Jill and husband, Jerry Nunneley; his son Jack Galland; and his daughter Jennifer Galland; grandchildren: Jerritt (Amanda) Nunneley, Jacob (Hilary) Nunneley, Jeanette Nunneley, Jonathan (Rhiana) Galland, Jenna (Calen) Taylor, Jocelyn (Cameron) Johnson, Shelby (Jacob) Dannels and Brady Galland and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings; son, Jon Galland and grandson, Colby Galland. We are comforted by the love he gave each of us every day of his life…That which is given to us, we keep forever, for love never ends.
Family will receive family and friends on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 9944 Leslie Road, San Antonio, TX 78254. Funeral will be held Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with committal services following at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Dick would smile with contributions being made to the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund.
