

Richard Harrell Jernigan, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025. He was born on August 19, 1941, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late James Kelly Jernigan and Ada Louise (Harrell) Jernigan.
Richard enjoyed all things aviation, being outdoors, fishing, golf and spending time at the beach with his wife, Peggy. He enjoyed a 21 year career in the Air Force followed by many years in Information Technology. His final retirement took him back to aviation working on vintage airplanes as a Colonel in the Commemorative Air Force.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Peggy (McDowell) Jernigan; his children, Richard Jernigan, Jr and Kimberly Jernigan; and his cherished grandchildren: Mackenzie and Lorena (Villego) Vanbeuren, Wellsley (Vanbeuren) and Brandon Van Horne, and Mckennin and Hannikah Vanbeuren. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren—Penelope and Samuel Van Horne and Elijah Vanbeuren—as well as his sister-in-law Jean (McDowell) Park and niece Pam Jernigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Kelly Jernigan, Jr, brother-in-law, John Chester Park and other dear family members.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Cornerstone Church, 18755 Stone Oak Parkway, San Antonio, Texas 78258. The family will be present before the service.
