Richard O. Luderus

Richard O. Luderus was born to Oswald and Lilia Luderus on May 3rd, 1948 and left this life suddenly on September 5, 2012 at the age of 64. Richard was born and raised in San Antonio, and was the oldest of two brothers.

Richard earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Southwestern University and his Master of Education degree from Southwest Texas State University. As a Music Educator, Richard worked in SAISD for over 30 years, fostering a love for music in his countless students. His gift of perfect pitch and his unique teaching abilities allowed him to be an outstanding musician and educator.

Richard met Elena, the love of his life, in 1971. They married and had two beloved daughters, Lauren and Gina. Above all else, Richard loved his family. He was happiest surrounded by his wife, Elena, daughter Lauren Meyenberg, her husband Bryan and their children Myles and Laney, as well as Gina Yokley, her husband Jonathan and their children Rowan and Finn.

Richard valued his friends and family and treasured the relationships he made throughout his life. Next to his family his greatest joy was performing with various big bands and especially with his combo, Just Friends. He enjoyed back yard barbeques, live music, fishing, visiting with lifelong friends, family celebrations, and movie nights with his grandchildren. His sense of humor, sound advice, and friendly outgoing nature will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father Oswald, mother Lilia, and brother Donald Luderus. Too many to name are the countless dear friends and extended family that were so much a part of Richard’s life.

His family wishes to thank the staff at Fresenius Medical Care North West for the excellent care provided during this past year. In addition, special thanks to Dr. Melissa Isbell for her exceptional care, treatment, and support during his extended illness.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 11, at 5:30pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 6:30pm, at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road.
