Richard Morgan Steede passed away on December 1, 2024, at the age of 87, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on February 11, 1937, in Marlin, Texas to Oma Inez Morgan Steede and Joseph Weldon Steede. After moving to San Antonio at the age of eleven years old, he graduated from Brackenridge High School, where he excelled in academics as well as music. Richard grew up to be a man of exceptional character, embodying friendliness, kindness, and wisdom throughout his life.
Richard's journey was marked by devotion and service, both to his country and his community. After studying Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics at Texas Tech University, he went on to serve his nation with honor as an Air Force veteran. As a young Lieutenant he met the love of his life, Patricia Ruth Hoffmann Steede, in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were soon married on April 6, 1963. His commitment to serving others continued throughout his career as a Mechanical Engineer for the Department of Defense.
Richard was a devoted husband to the late Patricia Ruth Hoffmann Steede and a loving father to his daughters, Dr. Jennifer Lea Steede and Julia Ann Steede Metz. He treasured his role as a grandfather to Taylor, Lauren, Keaton, and Kylie Metz, and Elliott Shah, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Richard's beloved niece, Charlotte Browning, also held a special place in his heart, and together they shared many joyful moments.
Richard and his family moved to their long-time home in Hollywood Park, Texas in 1977. This brought him to Coker Methodist Church, where his faith and fellowship with the congregation played a significant role in his life. He found joy in the companionship of his neighborhood, work and church families. He left his Hollywood Park home in 2019, moving to Emerald Oaks Retirement Village to stay close to his beloved community and church. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Those who knew Richard would describe him as the epitome of kindness, always ready with a friendly smile and a thoughtful gesture. He made it his life's mission to uplift those around him, whether it was through his encouraging words, sharing his love of music, mentoring others, or by setting an example of what it means to lead a life of integrity and honor.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Joseph Weldon Steede and mother Oma Inez Morgan Steede; wife Patricia Hoffmann Steede, sister Carolyn Steede Browning and brother Joseph Weldon Steede, Jr. He is survived by his daughters Jennifer Lea Steede, DVM and Julia Ann Steede Metz; son-in-law George Metz III, DDS, nieces Charlotte Ann Browning and Karen Steede Terry, nephews Kevin and Craig Steede, and grandchildren Taylor Morgan Metz, Lauren Elizabeth Metz, Elliott Ryan Shah, Keaton Avery Metz and Kylie Brooke Metz.
As we bid farewell to Richard Morgan Steede, we celebrate a life well lived—a life filled with love, friendship, and a deep sense of purpose. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but the memories he leaves behind will be treasured forever.
