Richmond Chase (Rick) Harper, Jr.

He was a loving father and grandfather, adored brother and a compassionate and loyal friend. He was known throughout the states and all corners of Mexico, as a one of a kind character and larger than life cowboy, rock star, rancher, poet and published author. While growing up in Mexico he was honored with the distinguished title of the youngest Cow Boss since Pancho Villa, on El Azulejo, the family's ranch in Mexico. He was a renowned cattleman and elite rodeo champion.

His favorite past time was spending time with his kids, grandkids, and siblings. His love and adoration for family was obvious to anyone who visited his home as every single square inch of wall had a framed picture of family and friends. Rick was a gifted story teller who enjoyed nothing more than telling long, detailed stories to small and large audiences alike. The interest level of the audience was never of any concern to Rick, nor could he be bothered by technicalities, such as facts. He was able to hold a single sided conversation with any ear better than any other. He was a free spirit, full of life, who never met a stranger or a mirror that he didn't like. His kind heart and boundless generosity knew no limits.

He graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of Texas, with a degree in Business Finance. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Richmond Chase Harper, and his mother, Mary Jo Harper Wagner. He is survived by his two children, Chase Harper and Rebecca Harper Hallam and her husband James; grandchildren Georgia, Hite and Hale Hallam; siblings, Rebel Foster Langford and her husband Doug, Dixie Harper de Santos and Adalberto, Michael Harper and Beth, Elihu Harper and Cecy; nieces and nephews, Chad Foster, Jr. and Jill, Savannah Longoria and Alejandro, Sarita Santos de Chavez and Gerardo, and Miguel Harper, Mila and Ryan Harper.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Ricky, by cutting the sleeves and collar off an old shirt, wear tight biker shorts, and buy a copy of his book, Rodriguez...Texas Ranger! The True Story of the First Mexican-American Texas Ranger.

A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at Porter Loring, 1101 McCullough, San Antonio, TX 78212.
