Rita Carol Thompson, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and esteemed professional, passed away on Sunday, February 18th, in San Antonio, Texas. Rita, known by her family as "Mia," leaves behind a legacy of love, spirit, and dedication that will forever resonate with those who knew and loved her.
Rita was a devoted and loving wife to Robert "Bob" Thompson. They celebrated their 61st year of marriage in September of 2023. As a mother, she was the heart of her family, raising her three children, Robert, Jason, and Robin - creating a bond that can not be broken. Rita's role as a grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Jack, Owen, Hunter, Clay, Ella, Jett, and Cole, brought her immense joy and fulfillment and the similar bond she created between the cousins is a gift that they will have forever.
A vibrant and sociable presence, Rita had a quick laugh and a gift for bringing people together. She was passionate about planning recipes, throwing memorable theme parties, and creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and friends. Rita's sense of style and her ability to make any space feel like home were truly remarkable.
Professionally, Rita excelled in various roles, showcasing her talents and dedication. From her work in Small Business at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce to her leadership as CEO of Medical Destination: San Antonio, Rita's impact was profound. She later served as CEO of the Arthritis Foundation and, most recently, as the National President of the American Lawyer’s Alliance (ALA), President of the Texas Lawyer’s Auxillary, and the San Antonio Lawyer’s Auxillary. In 2022, she received the ALA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Rita's commitment to her work was matched only by the respect and admiration she garnered from her colleagues and peers.
Rita's greatest accomplishment, however, was the family she created and nurtured. She instilled a deep sense of love and unity in her loved ones, and her memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration for them. As her family, we will honor Rita's memory by continuing to cherish one another and hold her close in our hearts.
Rita will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, warmth, and dedication will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends, ensuring that her spirit remains forever present in their lives.
In loving memory of Rita Carol Thompson, our beloved "Mia."
