With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Roben McGuire, who left this world on April 11, 2026. Born on February 9, 1954, to Rance and Karolee Rummelhart, Roben lived a life marked by warm radiance and an extraordinary gift for nurturing those around her.
Roben leaves behind her devoted husband, Tom McGuire, whom she married in 1977. She was the adoring mother to their three beautiful daughters, Lisa, Jennifer and her husband Alex, and Tammy and her husband Pete. She also leaves behind eight wonderful grandchildren: Thomas, Kimberlee, Jackson, Stephanie, Valerie, Josephine, Benjamin and Vivienne. She is also survived by her sisters Deb Matulonis and Lezlee Mayo. Roben was predeceased by her parents, Rance and Karolee Rummelhart and her brother Mike Rummelhart.
A lover of life, Roben encouraged everyone to see the beauty in everyday moments. Her belief that no one is a stranger, just a friend you haven’t met yet, epitomized her approach to life. She enjoyed a good game of Mahjong, Scrabble, and Yahtzee, and was often found engrossed in her favorite television show, NCIS, or reading a good book with at least one of her five beloved cats curled up beside her. Her love for Christmas transformed her home into a true winter wonderland each year. Her husband delighted in this tradition, thoughtfully surprised her with new decorations year after year. Her daughters and grandchildren experienced the magic she created in every detail—the comforting scent of her famously fresh-baked cookies, and the many hours she lovingly spent wrapping gifts “for Santa.” The beauty of every garden she touched depicted her love for nature and her love of baking made every house a home as well as every stomach full. She had a special way of making people feel valued and loved, and her legacy will live on through the countless memories she created.
Throughout her life, Roben created many beautiful memories traveling the world with her husband and children, living in places such as Kansas, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, and Germany, where she spent seven years exploring Europe. Yet, she always maintained that her greatest accomplishments were her family and the loving home she created with them. Her life will forever stand as an example of finding beauty and meaning in the small, everyday moments.
Roben's legacy of kindness, generosity, and selfless devotion to others will be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. She was an avid supporter of the San Antonio Humane Society, reflecting her love for animals. Her favorite color, blue, was as warm and inviting as her personality.
The following is a tribute to Grandma on behalf of all her grandchildren:
One of Roben’s most favorite things in the world was being a grandma. In total, she had eight grandchildren: T.J, Kimberlee, Jackson, Stephanie, Valerie, Josie, Benjamin, and Vivie, their ages spanning from 5 to 20 years of age. Her love and devotion to them knew no bounds, and she was always willing to do anything for them. In her eyes they were perfect, an extension of her love for her husband Tom, and their three daughters. When her grandchildren were little, she would sit with them on her lap and read books to them or tell them stories for hours on end. She would hold them for naps and play peek-a-boo when they woke up, always eager to entertain them. As they grew older, she would sit patiently and listen to their stories, her eyes lighting up as they spoke, her laugh echoing across the room. She would always pay special attention to each one, offering her full undivided attention and support. Roben loved drawing and coloring with her grandchildren or showing them how to do an art project. Many hours were spent patiently at a kitchen table, where she would model how to properly shade in a character or cut out a figure. If her grandchildren wanted to do a craft, she wouldn’t hesitate to visit every craft store in town to gather all the supplies they needed and work on it together. Her love for her grandkids shone largely through her acts of service, her thoughtfulness and commitment to each one of them reflected in her projects. Roben loved sewing things for them, whether it was quilts, pants, pillowcases, bathrobes, or clothes for her granddaughter’s dolls. She would spend hours in the fabric stores, meticulously picking out fabrics with patterns and colors that matched the style and interests of each one of her grandchildren. She was also always the first to volunteer to help celebrate their birthdays, oftentimes arriving in town days early, so that she could assist with decorating cakes and setting up party favors. She loved spending time with her family, and she always jumped at the chance to do any action for them, no matter the size. In the summer, Roben would pack her grandsons up into the car and take them on adventures across the city. They would go shopping, explore parks, or play games. She loved spending her days with them, as if she was exploring the world for the first time again through their eyes. Roben also took a special interest in each one of her grandchildren’s activities. She attended countless basketball, baseball, flag football, volleyball, and soccer games, always cheering her grandkids on from the stands. She took great pride and enjoyment in being involved in their lives, and she was always the first to wish them luck in a big game, a band concert, or congratulate them after a major accomplishment.
To her grandchildren, Roben was larger than life, a woman filled with infinite wisdom, along with endless creativity and compassion. But she was also Grandma, the same person who would make sprinkle cookies at Christmas time, spend hours styling their hair, teach them how to play Mahjong, give them the biggest hugs, and always stick her hand out the window to wave goodbye as she drove down the street. Roben’s love for her grandchildren was infinite and wholesome; it knew no bounds or restraint. Her memory, along with her wisdom, her patience, and her everlasting love will continue in the hearts of her grandchildren, who will forever carry a piece of her legacy.
A celebration of Roben's life will take place on May 11, 2026, with visitation being from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM and the celebration of life beginning at 7:30 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary - North. Roben loved casual conversations and social events. Please join us in casual dress to remember and honor Roben's spirit and the indelible mark she left on this world.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Roben’s name may be made to the San Antonio Humane Society 4804 Fredericksburg Road San Antonio TX 78229.
