Bob, was born to Adolph and Mary Louise Coy, on December 5, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas. Bob graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio in 1955, and in his youth worked at “Famous Cleaners,” the family business owned by his mother, while also acting as a member of the Naval Reserves. With the encouragement of his wife, Louise, he went back to school and received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters degree in Sociology at Trinity University, which launched him on his lifetime career in the field of education. He then worked as a 5th grade teacher before entering a distinguished thirty-year career at San Antonio College as a Professor of Sociology. During his years at SAC, Bob taught Marriage and the Family and served as the Chairman of the Criminology, Sociology, and Nursing Department. Bob retired from SAC in 1999.
Throughout his life, Bob was a big fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys, and he enjoyed many hobbies including painting, photography, golf, and shooting. Bob had a beautiful singing voice, and we will all fondly remember him singing “A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea” to his grandchildren.
Bob loved nothing more than spending time with his wife and children. He was always there for them. Robert Coy was the heart of his family and he will be missed every day in so many big and little ways; 86 years was not enough time with him.
