Robert Rienzi Elmendorf, age 88, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2015 in San Antonio, TX. He was born in El Paso, TX to Carolyn Moureau (Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico) and Hugo Frederick Elmendorf (El Paso, Texas).
He enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps in December 1944 serving active duty in both Japan and Korea as a Master Sergeant and retiring in reserve duty. He owned and operated a vending company for over 30 years, retiring at age 70. He was a proud Mason (Scottish Rite) and very active in the Alzafar Shrine, forming many good friendships. He also was an avid coin collector.
He was preceded in death by sister, Joan Louise Tonkin and brother, Hugo Elmendorf Jr. He is survived by wife, Barbara Elmendorf; and brother, Ernest Elmendorf; sons, Robert Elmendorf Jr., Steven Elmendorf and Ward Elmendorf; and step-daughter, Connie Burrer; also, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 315 E. Pecan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
