Robert “Bobby” Guadalupe Gonzales, born on July 4, 1959, in Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on November 13, 2025, in San Antonio, TX at 66 years of age. Bobby attended Thomas Jefferson High School and was a proud member of the Mustang Band where he played the French horn. Bobby enlisted in the United States Army in 1976 until he was medically discharged during basic training. He struggled throughout his early life with substance abuse. At the age of 55, he entered drug and alcohol rehabilitation with the Salvation Army. He was fortunate to have all his family with him at his successful graduation from the program. During rehabilitation, he renewed his relationship with his family and became a productive member of society. He reentered the workforce where he worked at Penner’s Menswear and subsequently in the San Antonio Independent School District. He proudly worked as a custodian at his alma mater until he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and Stage 4 liver cancer, a result of his early IV drug use. He completed his medical treatments even through the dark days of the COVID 19 Pandemic, never missing any medical appointments and immunotherapy treatments. He successfully completed treatment for both illnesses and was able to find the freedom of living a normal life. His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren. Bobby loved watching the Spurs, making jokes, and reading the newspaper. He is missed by his family and friends. His family wishes to thank the nursing staff of Northeast Baptist Medical Center Medical Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care of Bobby during his final days of life.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph Rocha Gonzales, Emma Belman Gonzales, and his sister Linda Dilliplane. He is survived by his daughter Madison Villanueva (Alfred); grandchildren Jaidyn, Tristan, Jonah, Emma and siblings Rudy Gonzales Jr. (Helen), Lydia Gonzalez (John Morales), and COL (R) Richard Gonzales (Monica).
A private family memorial and rosary service will be held at Porter Loring Funeral Home on 8 December 2025 followed by the interment of his ashes with full military honors at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on 9 December 2025.
