

Robert Gibson Gunn Jr. was born on December 2, 1916 in Pittsburgh, PA, the only son of Lydia Goodnough Gunn and Robert Gibson Gunn.
He graduated from Randolph Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA., and proceeded to Union College in Schenectady, NY. After serving in the US Army in the European theater during World War II he remained in the Army Reserves retiring as a Major.
On June 5, 1948 he married Carrie Gentzen Newton in San Antonio, TX and lived in Pittsburgh until 1959 when they and their son Robert Gibson Gunn III moved to San Antonio. He joined the investment firm of Russ and Company and worked there and at Rotan Mosle, Inc. until founding Gunn and Company with his son in 1979.
Born and raised in the Presbyterian Church, he joined the Episcopal Church in 1959 when he moved to San Antonio. In addition to serving his church in many leadership roles, he dedicated his efforts to numerous charitable organizations including in particular the Salvation Army, the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health and Saint Luke's Episcopal School. He remained a lifelong member of the Scottish Rite Society, Syria Temple in Pittsburgh.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Carrie Newton Gunn; his son, Robert Gibson Gunn III and his wife Shelly; and three grandsons, Robert Christian Gunn, William Stewart Gunn, and George Gibson Gunn.
