Robert R. Lopez was born on January 20, 1933, in San Antonio, Texas and passed away at the age of 92 on March 8, 2025. After serving in the military, he worked and paid his way through college. His goal was to further his education. He pursued this by earning his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University and his master’s degree from Our Lady of the Lake University. He held the position of principal at both Burnet Elementary and Edgar Poe Middle School. He was attentive, compassionate, and generous when he saw a student in need and was dearly loved by his students. After retirement, he remained active in the community and was certified as a Reserve Enforcement Officer by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement and also as a Public Safety Concealed Handgun Instructor. Robert was also fully involved with the Golden Gloves organization. His aspirations were high, and he even went to Hollywood and got a part as an extra, playing the part of an Indian. Nothing else materialized after that. Not to be discouraged, he loved his music and sang and played his guitar at various restaurants around town. His mother loved singing as well and he would accompany her with his guitar as she sang. He even made a CD of the songs he loved to sing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melchor and Josefa Ramos Lopez; his wife, Anne Lopez; son, Stephen; brothers, David, Jose, and Ramiro; and sisters, Refugia Kutnic and Sara Neri. He is survived by his sisters, Evangelina Krause and Consuelo Rodriguez and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at San Fernando Cemetery III. Pallbearers will be Gilberto Castro, Ruben Gutierrez, Avan Krause, Isaac Krause, David Lopez, and Juan Neri.
