On the 6th of January 2022, Robert Wayne McLeod, 65, of San Antonio, TX, passed away in his home surrounded by his wife, Carol McLeod, and children, Stephanie Barrera and Sean McLeod, after a long battle with cancer.
Robert Wayne McLeod was born in the city of Macon, Georgia, on the morning of October 25th, 1956. He was the first son of the 8 children that Alatia and Mary Ann would have. From an early age Robert and his siblings formed a tight bond, and as the eldest son he took great pride in protecting and providing for his family. He traveled a lot during his early life as an Army brat, where he developed a love of travel and seeing the world.
Robert graduated from Roosevelt High School, in San Antonio, in 1975, and joined the Navy in August the same year. There he served on the USS Ranger as a yellow shirt on the flight line. He traveled the sea visiting Hawaii, the Philippines, Japan, and Taiwan. He then ended his term of service with an honorable discharge in August 1981. After his military service he earned an associate degree in Computer Programming and Electronics at LBW Junior College, Alabama 1983, before settling in San Antonio, Tx.
Robert had two children, Stephanie in 1984, and Sean in 1985. As a single parent, starting with nothing and living out of a car, he was able to make his way for himself and his family with an unfailing work ethic. He wore many hats as an Illustrator, Machinist, Foreman, Drafter, and Designer. In 1999 Robert married the love of his life, his soulmate, Carol Dunn. They completed each other and she fit into the role of mother and wife as though she had always been there marking the start of a new phase in Roberts life. They were inseparable and together they were able to flourish and explore the world.
In 2018 Robert retired from Johnson Controls where he had been the senior designer/drafter there for nearly 20 years. With children grown and the family expanding he enjoyed retirement by traveling, playing games, being with family and friends, hitting the range, hanging with the guys, and lavishing love and attention on his children and grandchildren. He was known for taking one for the team and putting family first. He would give the shirt off his back if his wife let him. Robert loved and cherished his extended family members and many of them became true friends. No matter where he was, he could make a friend. He had the gift of seeing people for who they were. Robert had never met a stranger; He would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and always spoke of his family with pride.
Robert was predeceased by his parents. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Carol McLeod, his children, and their spouses, Stephanie (Oscar Barrera) and Sean McLeod (Sarah). He is also survived by his grandchildren Kolby Pinder, Emma Barrera, and Oscar Ian Barrera. He is survived by his siblings Debbie, Patrick, Richard, Mary Ann, Paul, Daniel, and John McLeod.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2022 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
