"OVERCOMER". That is the word to describe Robert Andrew "ANDY" Mixon, 50 years old, who has overcome the ravages of diabetes and cancer and is fully healed and is with his Jesus reveling in the love and joy of his Savior. Andy gave up the shackles of illness of this earth and went Home Tuesday, June 27th at 1:25 PM after battling the complications of pancreatic-metastatic cancer. The Lord was merciful to call him home after only 3 and half weeks of diagnosis. So that is the story of his earthly tent…his body. Jesus promises to heal that tent and He has. All to His Glory! But oh, the life Andy Mixon lived is what prepared him for his Heavenly home…
Andy Mixon loved his Lord and gave his life to Him at the age of 10 at a revival in his hometown of Baytown, Texas. Andy was born October 19th, 1966 in Baytown to William 'Bill' Mixon and Barbara (Whitesides) Mixon where his life was filled with lots of love, faith, and sports in a robust community of family and friends. Andy loved sports and was blessed to be coached by his dad in baseball. "Andy was like having another coach on the field as he was fully committed to whatever position he was playing!" says his dad Bill Mixon of Andy's passion for the game, even at an early age.
Intelligence, athleticism, quick wit and infectious faith were superlatives bestowed upon Andy as he grew in stature. Andy excelled through his elementary and high school years in the arenas of sports, scholarship and the creative talents of music and voice. From the sports fields to the halls of his beloved 1st Baptist Church of Baytown, Andy's joyfully large personality created fun and loving relationships that are still remembered today.
Andy graduated from Robert E Lee High School in Baytown in 1985 having been installed as a member of the National Honor Society. From Lee College in Baytown, his heart for the Longhorns took him to THE University of Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master in Professional Accounting together, graduating in 1990. His hard work paid off in his licensing as a Certified Public Accountant.
The Lord paved the way for a wonderful career utilizing all the gifts and talents He imparted to Andy. From his years at Texas Commerce Bank in Houston starting in 1990, with experience as financial analyst, and Assistant Vice President- Accounts Payable, to a foray in to the insurance industry that allowed Andy the opportunity to travel, to many years as a controller for an air-medical company, Andy always brought his special gift of a servant's heart to make a Kingdom impact for the Lord. He will be missed…
Andy's heart has always been that those he met in his life and work would know the love of his Savior. It is his last place of employment where he flourished most. In 2014, Andy began a wonderful career as a Department Fiscal Administrator for the City of San Antonio in the Economic Development Department where he thoroughly loved his work in serving his staff and colleagues and the citizens of San Antonio. In 2015 Andy advanced to the much larger SA Police Department where he embraced any challenge with a God-confident outlook and loved being part of the team. "Mr. Joyful", "Loyal, Selfless, Servant and Christ-like" are just a few of the words heard through the halls of the department when describing Andy Mixon. Andy loved the work of his hands and was grateful to be part of such a wonderful employment as the City of San Antonio. He will be missed…
Being in church was one of Andy's favorite places to be. Andy was a member of Harvest Bible Chapel San Antonio where he was quick to minister and love on people. Being part of the facilities team allowed Andy to serve the church body and he loved it. In the daily living of life and especially in the trial of illness, being surrounded by the Body of Christ who have been the hands and feet of Jesus has brought much healing to his wife Cherie and their families. Now they will join in celebrating his life.
Andy is survived by his bride Cheryl (Cherie) Faust Mixon and would have celebrated their 10th anniversary October 29th of this year. Customary to his character, Andy modeled God's designs for husbands as described in Ephesians 5 loving his wife as Christ loved the Church, giving up himself for her. He and Cherie were truly one in Christ and shared their love of one another in ministry to the families in poverty on the Eastside of San Antonio through H.I.S. BridgeBuilders-SA where they met and have been serving since 2006. Cherie was recruiting volunteers when she met Andy and though she was seeking volunteers, the Lord blessed her with her long-awaited Knight in Shining Armor. Among the many ways in which Andy served BridgeBuilders, he worked with the boys the Mighty Warriors Bible Study in the former Wheatley Courts neighborhood, loving on them, guiding them into that relationship that never disappoints…a relationship with Jesus. He will be missed…
Surviving Andy also are his parents, Bill and Barbara Mixon of New Braunfels, TX, sister Jenny (Mixon) Klebenow and husband Mark Klebenow of Clear Lake TX, brother Mike Mixon and his wife Kathy of Baytown TX, brother Tim Mixon and his wife Beth of Temple TX. Also, father and mother in-love, Clint and Edna Earle Faust, sister-in-love Cindy Faust, all of Canyon Lake TX, brother-in-love Brian Faust, his wife Dana of San Antonio, TX, brother-in-love Scott Faust, his wife Michele of Minneapolis MN.
Andy loved his precious nieces and nephews and was delighted to be their uncle: Elizabeth Klebenow living in China, Elliot Klebenow, Minneapolis, MN, Jordan Mixon, Trent Mixon of Baytown TX, Caroline Mixon, Abby Mixon, Anna Grace Mixon of Temple TX, Nick Sowders, Bryce Faust, Maddie Faust of San Antonio, and Zoe Faust of Minneapolis, MN.
Andy was blessed to be loved by many including a large extended "family" of Baytown-Exxon families who were as much "aunt, uncles and cousins" as they are friends, being part of the community that was such an integral portion of Andy becoming all that the Lord designed for him and he was grateful.
For Andy Mixon, doing life with his beloved bride Cherie, his coveted family, friends of all walks, cheering his Longhorns and Cowboys and most of all serving His Lord by loving on the lost, created a fullness and completeness of purpose for Andy and therefore has left a void on this side of Glory that only the Lord could ease. Andy would want to see you in Heaven and would ask you… "Do you know Jesus?" He is waiting for you…
