

Colonel (Ret) Robert Jacques Muncie, United States Air Force passed away on December 23, 2012. Colonel Muncie was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on July 26 ,1920 the son of Robert H. and Catherine Muncie. He enlisted in the Army-Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet in June, 1942 and upon graduation from DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana in May 1943 he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. Colonel Muncie was assigned to the 134th AACS, 89 AAF Base Unit in Europe in June 1944 and during his tour in the European theater was assigned to numerous units as Detachment Commander and Communications Officer in the communications security area. In 1946 by order of the President he was appointed as the Commanding officer of Detachment 225, 762 AAF Base Unit. He continued to serve in Europe until 1947 when he returned to the United States. Colonel Muncie served at numerous bases including Langley Field, Maxwell Field, and Tinker AFB. Colonel Muncie eventually returned to Europe and again served in a number of commands in Germany and France. Upon return to the United States he was stationed at the Pentagon as Assistant for Programming, Directorate of Material, DCS. He was a graduate of the HQ Air Command Staff School, Communications and Electronics Staff Officer Course.
Colonel Muncie's awards include The Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Medal w/4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the American Campaign Medal, WWII Army Occupation Medal (Germany), World War II Victory Medal, European, Africa, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal w/5 Bronze stars, the Air Force Reserve Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Colonel Muncie retired from the Air Force in June of 1965 and worked for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) at Cameron Station, Alexandria Virginia. Upon retiring from DLA, he and his wife moved to Florida where he started his own pharmaceutical delivery business serving the nursing home community in the St. Petersburg area. In March of 1988 Colonel Muncie and his wife moved to Air Force Village II in San Antonio, Texas where he spent another 20 years volunteering at the pharmacy at Wilford Hall medical Center, Lackland AFB. While at AFV II, Colonel Muncie became an avid walker and participated in numerous "walks" for charitable causes including cancer and Alzheimer's research. He was a member of the AFV II Church choir and the Investment Club for many years at AFV.
Colonel Muncie was predeceased by his first wife Genevieve Marcelle Muncie and his second wife Helen Hope Muncie. He is survived by three children, Bernadette K. (Andrew) Wyczlinski, of San Antonio, Texas, Phillip J. (Jeanette) Muncie, of Chesapeake, Virginia and Patrick R. (JoAn) Muncie of Ft. Worth, Texas; Five grandchildren, Nicole M. (Jeffrey) Kelly, of North Branch, Michigan, Andrew R. Wyczlinski of Dayton, Ohio, Russell P. Muncie of Chesapeake, Virginia, Kyle J. Muncie of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Jessica Muncie of Ft Worth, Texas. Two great-granddaughters, Chelsea N. Kelly and Taylor M. Kelly of North Branch, Michigan.
According to his wishes there will not be a memorial service. Colonel Muncie will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
Remembrances may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Society or Freedom House at Air Force Village II.
