It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert Rodriguez, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who was called home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2025. He was born on November 13, 1936, to Juan Ramos Rodriguez and Maria Moreno Rodriguez in San Antonio, Texas. Robert’s life was a testament to his unwavering devotion to his family, his service to his country, and his deep commitment to his community.
Robert was a man of remarkable strength and character. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959, serving his country with honor through active duty before continuing his commitment in the Army Reserves until his retirement in 1987. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, responsibility, and pride—values he carried with him throughout his life. After completing his service, Robert transitioned into civilian life as a skilled carpenter. He worked tirelessly alongside his brother-in-law, Elias, before dedicating many years to the Northside Independent School District. As a foreman in the maintenance department, Robert was admired for his dedication, strong work ethic, and meticulous attention to detail. He became a trusted and respected figure within the district before his well-earned retirement.
However, Robert’s greatest pride and joy was his family. On August 14, 1966, he married the love of his life, Antonia. Their love story spanned 58 years, during which they shared countless memories, laughter, and support. Together, they built a life filled with respect and deep affection for one another. Their bond was the cornerstone of their family, and Robert’s devotion to his wife and children was evident in everything he did.
Robert was a man of deep conviction, and his commitment to his beliefs extended beyond his family.
Robert was passionate about civic engagement. He believed strongly in the power of voting and took pride in being an informed citizen. Robert made it a point to stay updated on local, state, and national politics, and he was always eager to share his views with others. He inspired his family and friends to become active participants in the democratic process, stressing the importance of using one’s voice to bring about change.
Robert’s hobbies and interests brought him great joy, and he enjoyed a rich variety of activities. He was an avid fisherman, often spending time outdoors, relishing the peacefulness of nature. Robert also had an insatiable love for food—his love for menudo and traditional Mexican dishes was well-known among family and friends. He was also a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan and rarely missed a game, proudly rooting for his team. He enjoyed mariachi music and could always appreciate the soulful melodies and rhythms that resonated with him with a “grito.”
Robert’s zest for life extended to his love of travel, particularly trips to Las Vegas, where he and Antonia would often explore the city’s entertainment and culture. However, it was the family gatherings that meant the most to Robert. He had a special talent for barbecuing, a passion that allowed him to bring loved ones together around the table. His backyard gatherings, filled with laughter, delicious food, and shared stories, will remain a cherished memory for all who were fortunate enough to be part of them.
Robert is reunited in Heaven with his father, Juan Rodriguez; his mother, Maria Rodriguez; his brothers, Rudy, Hector, and Johnny; his sister, Enedina (Nena) Zuniga; and his son-in-law, Marvin Vallance. While he is deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing he is now in the presence of his loved ones.
Robert's memory will forever live in the hearts of his beloved wife, Antonia Rodriguez; daughters, Leticia Rodriguez and Melissa Vallance; son Bobby Rodriguez Jr. (Monica); grandchildren, Stephany Rodriguez (Dustin), Daniel, Anthony, Aiden, Willie-Ann, and Bobbie-Ann; great-grandchildren, Mason, Gavin, and Braden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and generosity.
Robert’s legacy of love, service, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be cherished forever, and the lessons he imparted about family, community, and living a life of purpose will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Rest in peace, Robert. You will forever be loved, and your legacy will never be forgotten.
