Robert was born on June 27, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, to Robert Carr Wilson and Inez Ebaben.
He proudly served his country from 1954 to 1962. During his years of service, he was stationed in many states before returning to his hometown to be with family and friends. After leaving the military, he began a career in Civil Service, first working and training to become a certified Jet Engine Mechanic, and later serving as an Equipment Specialist to inspect and procure equipment for military aircraft. He worked at Kelly until his retirement in 1987.
Robert was also a member of LBJ Post 631 American Legion, where he enjoyed socializing with family and friends. Although he was a man of few words, when he had something to say, he meant what he said. He was loved by those who knew him and was known as a good man.
Though Robert rarely reached out, if ever, those who knew him understood that he often thought of them and cared deeply. He loved his wife, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, his family, extended family, and old friends.
He often spoke of his stepfather, Gearold Nolan, who treated him as a son and whom he considered his dad. Their favorite pastime was fishing, and they made many trips together as often as they could. Robert regarded him as a great man and father, missed him dearly after he passed, and thought of him often.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Leonor Leyva Wilson, whose loving and giving nature touched many; his baby daughter, Susan D. Wilson, in infancy; his mother, Inez Nolan; his father, Robert Carr Wilson; his stepfather, Gearold Nolan; his sisters, Gloria Prentice and Phyllis Nolan; his brother, Donald “Artie” Wilson; and his niece, Jacqueline Prentice.
He is survived by his children, Robert Calvin Wilson and wife Mary, Gerald F. Wilson, Karen Wilson-Sweeney, and Carrie Garza; his grandchildren, Lori Wilson, Bobby Wilson, Richard Wilson, Harley Wilson, Karina Wilson-Wesley, Virginia Robles, Joseph Garza, Jacob Garza, and Jared Garza; his sisters, Florence Tidwell, Norma Lambert, and Geraldine Nolan; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
May he rest in eternal love and peace.
