He was known for his lively gatherings and legendary smoked brisket. At any party, Rudy could easily be found by his Cowboy hat and his traveling bar, always ready to share a drink and a story with his family and friends.
Rudy had numerous occupations in his lifetime, never wanting to retire. These included Life Insurance Sales, Home Builder, Consumer Product Distributor, Farm Equipment Sales, Farmer, School Bus Driver, and finally, owning and operating his own ranch in Leesville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julio and Ignacia “Nacha” Garza.
Rudy is survived by his siblings, Albesa “Bessie” Fernandez (Albert), Homer Garza (Gwen), Hector Garza (Lydia), and Mary Alice Luna (Omar); his beloved children, Sandy Garza (Stephen) Morrison, Kathy Hester (Todd), Eddie Garza (Tabitha), and cherished Stepdaughter, Davina Lopez (Joe Carrera); as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his warmth, humor and love of bringing people together.
A Visitation will be held on April 16th, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, TX 78232, with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will take place on April 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Rd., San Antonio, TX 78258, followed by a burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209, at 1:00 p.m.
A very special thank you to the caregivers and staff at Chapters Living of San Antonio, Poet’s walk of San Antonio Elara, Kindful and Abundant Hospice for the kindness, compassion and comfort they showed. Their care meant more than words can express and will always be remembered with gratitude.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s research, hospice organizations, or any other charity of your choice.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved and always remembered.
