

Roland Alvarado, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 8, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Eagle Pass, Texas on September 16, 1949, and was a 1968 graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. After graduation Roland enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam (1969-1970). He rose to the rank of sergeant and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Air Medal. He retired as a sheet metal worker with Tezel & Cotter Air Conditioning and was a member of the SMART Local 67 Union.
Roland loved spending time with his family by taking casino bus trips, BBQing, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and boxing matches. He was always willing to help or lend a hand to family and friends. He was an ardent animal lover. Throughout his years, he gave and received unconditional love from his beloved dogs; ChaCha, Rosie, Bubba, Baby Girl, Chucho, and Buddy, his cat. He was part of the local feral cat coalition and would continue to feed the feral and stray cats after they had been spayed or neutered.
Roland was preceded in death by his wife, Beatriz H. Alvarado; parents, Julio C. and Graciana Alvarado; and siblings, Rene Alvarado, and Romelia Alvarado. He is survived by his three children, Ruth, AnnMarie, and Ronald Alvarado; five granddaughters, Desiree Gonzalez (Juan), Justine Ann Reyes (Anastacia), Amanda Nicole Alvarado, Reanna Witherspoon (Daylan), and Rubiana Alvarado; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosavelia Cox and Rosemary (Abel) Gallegos; brothers, Roberto and Ricardo Alvarado, and numerous nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary.

Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
