Rolando Samaniego, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, entered into the loving arms of Our Lord on November 28, 2025 at the tender age of 74. He was born on November 1, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas to parents, Angelina Leal and Gustavo Samaniego. Rolando lived a life full of laughter, heart, and simple joys—always finding reasons to celebrate the people he loved.
Born with a natural love for the outdoors, Rolando was happiest near the water. Whether he was casting a line along the coast, relaxing at a lake, or taking his children on cherished one-on-one fishing trips, being outside brought him peace. Those trips weren’t just hobbies—they were his way of staying connected to his kids, giving them his full attention and passing down moments they would carry forever. Rolando also loved a good game, whether it was shooting pool, throwing darts, or joining local leagues and tournaments where he proudly won a few matches. A devoted San Antonio Spurs fan, he especially loved going to games with his family, cheering loudly and sharing in the excitement of every play.
A talented mechanic, Rolando found purpose in working with his hands. He had a true passion for cars and took pride in being able to fix almost anything placed in front of him. His skill, patience, and dedication made him someone others could always rely on.
Rolando loved music, dancing, and having a great time. He enjoyed Tejano, classic rock, and oldies, and he never missed a chance to crack a joke or make someone smile. His humor and warmth made him the kind of person people were naturally drawn to.
Rolando met Marta Diaz, thanks to a meeting. What began as a friendship grew into a deep, loving partnership. Rolando and Marta were married on July 19, 2013, and together they built a beautiful life filled with companionship, laughter, and mutual care. Rolando loved his children deeply and never missed their games, school events, or moments that mattered. His family always came first, and he showed his love not only through words, but through time, presence, and unwavering support.
He will be reunited in heaven with his parents, Angelina “Chelo” Leal, Gustavo and Sulema Samaniego; siblings, Gustavo Samaniego Jr., Silvia Balderas, and Rosalinda Cisnero.
Rolando’s memory will forever live in his wife, Marta Samaniego; children, Roland Samaniego Jr. (Jessica), Jefferey Samaniego (Michelle), Marcia Samaniego (Danny), and Kevin Samaniego (Alyssa); grandchildren, Celeste, Brianna, Amber, Benicio, Brando, Alexa, Mateo, Christopher, Nevaeh, King, and Khloe. Great-grandchildren, Elvis and Juliana; siblings, Iris Ogeda (Albert), Leonard Samaniego (Lupe), Elva Samaniego (Camilo), and Raymond Samaniego; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Rolando will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
A memorial visitation will be held on January 3, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home with the memorial service beginning at 3:00 pm.
