Rose B. Holman was born into eternal life on April 25, 2004 at the age of 78. Having lived most of those years in San Antonio, she found great joy in being called San Antonio Rose by those who knew her as the vivacious and charismatic woman she was.
Her parents, Sampson L. and Lilly H. Morrow, welcomed her into their lives on June 11, 1925. Rose graduated from Christine High School and worked for a brief time at Kelly AFB before beginning her career with SW Bell Telephone. Even after her retirement from Ma Bell, she continued her involvement with those friends through the Pioneers.
Her commitment to her church, Hope Lutheran, found her studying the Bible with friends in the Hannah Circle, folding weekly bulletins, greeting visitors, and always finding time to help when called. Whether it was the almost 20 years she spent as the historian of the San Antonio Lutheran Coronation Association decorating floats and creating scrapbooks or helping with local political campaigns, she remained a tireless volunteer and a constant source of laughter.
Rose will be missed by those she gave her heart to without hesitation. The loyalty and support of the Golden Girls' friendships made fifty years ago would be proof that true friendships only grow stronger and better with time. Rose's love for life led her to develop new friendships through the Red Hat Society.
Early on, Rose found a way to encourage and support her daughters while developing a career. She took great pride and joy in their lives and shared that with anyone who would listen. That devotion to family only increased when her grandchildren entered her life. She is matriarch to a family which includes daughters, Rose Anne Holman, Karen Peoples; son-in-law, Wes Peoples; grandchildren, Sarah, Jared, and Stefan Broz, Max, Kate, and Jackson Peoples; and great grandchild, Ashlyn Nicole Meik.
The courage and grace with which she faced her cancer is yet another inspiring part of her legacy to family and friends.
