Rosemary L. Gonzales, known to many as ‘Birdie’, passed away after a long, valiant struggle with cancer on January 14, 2025, at the age of 73. She went peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Rosemary will always be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend.
Rosemary was born on February 5, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas to Marcos and Josephine Landeros. She graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1969. Rosemary married Lloyd Gonzales in 1971 and spent 48 wonderful years together until his passing in 2019. Rosemary and Lloyd had one daughter, Cynthia and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Lauren.
Rosemary had a long, glorious career for over 35 years with Mrs. Baird’s Bakery which later became Bimbo Bakeries. She retired in 2010 to begin her second career as grandmother or ‘Nanie’. She was a devoted grandmother to Alyssa and Lauren. Her life revolved around them. She poured her heart and soul into caring for them, instilling in them her values of kindness and integrity. She was their greatest cheerleader, their guiding light and their constant source of unconditional love. Her impact on their lives is immeasurable, and her legacy will live on through them.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Max Gonzales; her parents, Marcos Landeros Sr. and Josephine Sanchez Landeros; and her brother Marcos Landeros Jr.
Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Gonzales; her granddaughters, Alyssa and Lauren; her brother Michael Landeros and wife Janie. She is also survived by brother-in-law Tony Gonzales and wife Mary; sister-in-law Irene Rodriguez and husband Robert; sister-in-law Brenda Gonzales and sister-in-law Rosie Castellano Gonzales; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mom will always be remembered for her deep love for her family and her generous caring spirit. Her courage and strength during her battle with cancer showed her resilience. She was up for the fight if it gave her a chance to cherish her family for a little bit more. Our world feels emptier without her, but we know her spirit will forever live on in the lives of the people she touched.
For My Mother –
The love you gave me mother is something I can’t explain. It’s full of patience, calm and care, sometimes of sacrifice and pain. I probably never tell you enough just what you mean to me. I probably should say it more, that you are the reason I am me. You were my cook, my playmate, my nurse, and my teacher. The list just doesn’t end. For everything I am truly grateful. First my mother…now my friend.
Rest in peace Mommy…
