Roy V. Pea, age 77, of San Antonio, Texas, died peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2011. Roy proudly served his Country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Essex as a RM2 Radioman during the Korean conflict. He received Campaign Ribbons for China Service and National Defense. He retired from civil service at Kelly AFB in San Antonio, Texas, in 1997, where he worked as a Weapons Systems Analyst. Roy loved camping, hunting, boating, fishing, woodworking, and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed learning new things and then generously passing that knowledge on. Roy was also a pilot and a benefactor, and loved to spend time with family and friends. He graduated from Tech High School in San Antonio, Texas and received his BBA from The University of Texas at Austin. He loved to cruise in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico with his girlfriend, Angelica (Angie) & her sister, Sylvia Segovia, and enjoyed one special cruise, joined by his brother, Arthur Pena and wife, Linda. Roy was a previous President for his Tech High School Alumni Group (Class of '53), and coordinated many functions with his friend, Chris Moran. At his famous family barbeques, he was known as "Chef Roy." Above all else, he was a family man, known to many as "Uncle Roy" even when they were not related to him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Telesforo and Elvira Pea; brothers, Michael Pea, Robert and wife Lucy Pea, and Louis Pea; sister, Esther Alicea; and brother-in-law Pedro P. Gamez, Jr.. Roy is survived by his sister, Beatrice Marie Gamez; brother, Arthur Pea and wife, Linda of Clawson, Michigan, and sister-in-law, Olivia Pea, and by the special love of his life, Angelica Velasquez. He is also survived by many admiring nieces and nephews: Cheryl and David Deleranko of Flower Mound, Texas, Maggie and Everett Farley, Rose Marie Alicea, Anthony and Martha Gamez, Dan Pea of Clawson, Michigan, Albert Gamez, Ronald Gamez, Henry and Kathleen Gamez; Roland and Ofelia Alicea; and David and Michelle Pea. Surviving great-nieces and nephews include Crystal "Ivy" Gamez, Melissa Gamez, Lori Deleranko, Eva Thorp, Veronica Camarillo, Lauren Zapata, Roxxane Alicea, Jarred Alicea, Dan Garza of Burbank, California, and Eric Gamez. He was loved by countless family members, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Mr Pena's family requests that those wanting to honor his memory do so by re-connecting with a family member or friend, in lieu of sending flowers. He would have preferred a simple call or expression of caring towards a loved one. He was adored, and will be missed so very much. A Memorial Service to Celebrate his Life will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, December 16, 2011, at 2:30 p.m.
