

Roy Dunlap Quillian Jr., was born April 7, 1921, in Pleasanton, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college, Roy worked for Pan American Airways as an Aeronautical Engineer, before enlisting in the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. He proudly served in the 1408th Army Air Force Base Unit in Paris, France, as an Aerial Engineer.
Upon completion of his service, he began a vibrant 29 year career at Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas, where he worked as a Research Engineer in the automotive department. He held several patents during his career, and later became the Vice President of the Southwest Research Energy Systems Research Division, which was the world’s largest independent research facility for the development of engines, fuels, and lubricants that run through them.
Roy married Nancy Ruth Wooton, Nov. 11, 1945, in Brewster, Florida, and had three children, Roy III, James, and Jonathan. Nancy preceded him in passing on October 1, 1993, at age 69. Roy Quillian Jr., passed away on May 13, 2016. Roy was 95 years old. He is survived by his 3 loving sons, their spouses, and 11 wonderful grandchildren.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Sunset Funeral Home with a visitation to begin at 2PM, and a funeral service at 3PM. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Condolences are welcomed, and can be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com
