Ruben will always be remembered as an example to be emulated. His achievements will only be exceeded by the long term impact that he had on the many he served in Mission Presbytery. Ruben also spread the Gospel with compassion and dedication.
As a Navy veteran and graduate of The University of Texas, he always remembered that "the eyes of Texas are upon you". Godspeed to a faithful servant and condolences to the family.

Dear Cynthia, Caleb, and all the family,
While Betty Anne and I cannot be with you on Saturday for the service, we have shared warm memories of time spent with Ruben as friend, colleague, boss, and confidant. I was honored to serve alongside him through my first term as Interim Stated Clerk and our time in court with First, San Antonio.  We were also honored to share a long evening with him at our motel in Kerrville before a presbytery meeting, telling stories and sharing insights about the Church he loved.

Alas! Yet, Alleluia! The friendship and ministry I have shared with Ruben and you over the years have been truly sweet and precious. While my heart is heavy, I also rejoice and give thanks to God for the paths that brought Ruben and you into my life. Indeed, these paths created many fond and lingering memories of our journey together throughout our Presbytery.  Now, in your bereft but thankful family's new beginning, may the God of all comfort keep and comfort all of you, as well.

Dear Cynthia, Caleb, and Family,

I met Rubin and Cynthia more than 30 years ago. They were on a date and he was strutting like a prize rooster and driving a souped up 57' Chevy.
Unlike some, he walked his religion but rarely talked it unless he was in church.
He was a talented musician, a brilliant raconteur, a loving husband and father, a great friend and an even great human being.

Ruben was carefully chosen by God to be His hands & voice. He was very instrumental in my spiritual life & especially valuable in my sons’s life when he lost his wife. He sought counsel with the man he truly admired & respected. He exhumed compassion & was always there for you in your time of need. We were blessed to have had him in our lives. God rest his soul.

Rick and I were very honored to have him do the blessing of our marriage. He will be truly missed.

I loved my Uncle Ruben. Besides my father, he was number 2 in giving me guidance. He administered vows when my wife and I were married, along with my grandfather. He was there for me when I was dealing with my father's death. I always had great conversations with him about people and spiritual matters. I will miss him greatly.

Ruben was pure joy. Always had a smile on his face, always offered a warm embrace, and lived a life marked by true faith. He will be so missed! Grateful to have known him.
