

Ruben Javier Cañas, loving husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 28, 2004. He served God faithfully as a Baptist pastor and minister for over 50 years touching many lives through his ministry and music.
Ruben was born on May 13, 1929 in San Benito, TX to Evaristo and Elvira Cañas and married Idalia Yolanda Hernandez of San Antonio, TX on November 28, 1959. He pastored in the states of TX, OK, MO, KS, IL and TN. He is remembered for his faithful service to God, sense of humor and ability to inspire and bring joy to those he served. Ruben also served in the medical corps of the U.S.A.F. during the Korean War.
Ruben is survived by his loving wife Yolanda, daughter Betsy Cañas Garmon and husband Randy of Atlanta, GA, daughter Norma Cañas and husband Richard Bierman of New Canaan, CT, son David Cañas and wife Elizabeth of Brentwood, TN, and seven grandchildren: Lee, Joshua, Rowan, Luke and Andrea Garmon and Caroline and Emily Cañas. Other family include his sisters, Elma Perez, Ruth C. Gray, Elvira Flores and husband Arnulfo, and Velia C. Garza and numerous nieces and nephews.
